Singer LP Performs

Hi, I'm LP. This song is called Night Like This. You are the one, you are the only one. I was born to know. Beyond the crush, of any summer lust. Can we dare to go?

Young Hollywood

I'm joined in the young Hollywood studio by the amazingly talented LP. How are you?

Singer LP Performs

I'm good, how are you?

Young Hollywood

I'm amazing. You just performed. It was incredible. As always.

Singer LP Performs

Oh, thank you.

Young Hollywood

As always. A night like this and Tokyo Sunrise. You whistle, you sing, ukulele and guitar. In what order did you learn them?

Singer LP Performs

Uh, probably whistling was my first thing.

Young Hollywood

Okay. You whistled before you sang.

Singer LP Performs

Yeah, yeah, I I I would whistle a little bit. Uh, probably singing, I don't know, you know, I can't remember but like probably like singing, whistling, guitar, ukulele.

Young Hollywood

Ukulele. Definitely helps for the traveling purposes, doesn't it?

Singer LP Performs

Yes. And, you know, it makes me look bigger.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, I never, I didn't think of that. This is great.

Singer LP Performs

On a night, like this. On a night, like this. Are we falling? Are we falling too?

Young Hollywood

Forever for now, that's in the new album. Yes. June 3rd, coming out. Exciting times. Take us through the album like, the the sounds, the.

Singer LP Performs

Uh, well, it's a, I think it's a it's a journey. It starts off real strong, you know, has a really um, uh fast-paced um, high-energy song first called Heavenly Light and then it kind of it takes us a little bit of a journey. I mean, there's some different sounds. I I like songs that sound different, you know, and I I wanted to showcase a lot of different sounds. I wanted to use my voice a few different ways, so I tried to achieve that. I've played again and again. And in the end, I wasn't innocent, but we can still pretend.

Young Hollywood

But your backstory is quite amazing as well because, you know, the family upbringing you you came from. Your dad was a lawyer. Um, your mom liked to sing. That was where the singing came from, correct?

Singer LP Performs

Right. Yeah, yeah.

Young Hollywood

And then obviously you started opera. Opera lessons.

Singer LP Performs

Well, no, you know, I I kind of just sang and then um, my mom felt like she was kind of insistent that she thought I should train because, you know, she did. And um, and then I didn't really at first but then I couldn't really I have a very like loud kind of like belty, powerful kind of voice and I needed to get it under control because I just felt like it was a little too wild and I I studied opera at Carnegie Hall for a little bit. Like I always warm up before I before I sing. I have to because I can't like in Tokyo Sunrise. I would kind of hurt myself probably if I didn't.

Young Hollywood

That's pretty dangerous if you don't warm up. Do.

Singer LP Performs

Yeah, yeah. I've said a lot of words all wrong way. I've heard them all while we rang. But showers of love is beaten by the waves. And after it was done, I wish I'd said time.

Young Hollywood

What's the secret behind writing a hit song?

Singer LP Performs

Um, I think honestly, it's just like, you know, the throw the spaghetti deals. You just write a lot of songs. And then, um, you know, some of them are, you know, uh, some of my mentors and and people that I've written with, um, they've written some of the biggest songs you've ever heard and and and I've heard some of the clunkers, you know, I think you just have to keep writing songs. Right, right.

Singer LP Performs

Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? I can't tell you know. Oh, hey. Someday in the sky we'll see the same sun on the rise. Hey, wherever you go, bar in Tokyo, I can't say.

Young Hollywood

When you are on the road, what are three things that you can't be without?

Singer LP Performs

Ah. Possibly couldn't be without. I mean, I can't be without like, I mean, my Spotify and stuff like that. I mean, I really need like, cause there's like because that's like every song and you know, you don't have a lot of, you know, you could fill up your your phone or whatever. Right. Right. But it's still never enough. Yeah, the iPad I gotta watch a lot of movies and and read a lot of Kindle. Like honestly, that's like the there's so much downtime that if you don't have like books to read and music to listen to, it's a little crazy. Right. Oh, and I got and I need a yoga mat cause I gotta do some yoga.

Young Hollywood

Yoga as well?

Singer LP Performs

Yoga as well.

Young Hollywood

Look at that. On a night, like this. On a night, like this. You had a couple record deals. And they didn't work out. And you've persevered.

Singer LP Performs

Yeah, persistence. It's paid off and hard work. Well, you know, um, the the two record deals that didn't work out, the two major label deals that didn't work out, they really just helped me amass a bunch of songs that got me the songwriting. And then I kind of forgot about the I forgot I really didn't. I just was like immersed in songwriting and I was like happy to like have something to call my own, like career-wise. I, you know, I wasn't, you know, I was like not having to work a day job or something. So that was nice. And then, um, and then very organically, probably through playing this instrument, um, it just got me back into loving like writing my own songs for myself and and it was an unexpected, really like I said, organic experience and surprise and and you know, and I had, and Warner Brothers got behind it and they really. Yeah, Berlin will be waking up, and sleepless nights coming up, aren't they? I don't know. We let her go. You let her go. Let her go. Are we falling? Are we falling too?
