Singer Becky G Brings Hollywood to Inglewood

So great to have you here. Um, I have Becky From the Block in my head. I've had it in my head for two days now because I was I was watching your videos and it I mean obviously Jenny From the Block.

But your take on it, I mean, girl, your voice.

When did you first learn that you could actually rap and like have that sort of throw those those hooks in there?

Well, I actually started acting and singing first when I was like nine turning ten, and I just started writing and then I was like, I'm going to put a rap in this song. Like I need I need my little spotlight on me when I'm performing or something. And I started writing raps and then started eventually writing the songs and it just kind of grew from there and it was just kind of like a little beast part of me that released.

So we wanted to make you comfortable here at Young Hollywood. And I read something about you loving hot sauce.

Oh my god, they're the tiny sized hot sauce bottles. This is what happens when you have a studio at the Four Seasons. You call room service and they have these tiny little hot sauces you can put them in your purse and take them everywhere you go. But they're so cute.

Now what is it about hot sauce? Because hot sauce wigs me out. I can't put it on anything.

Really? No, I think the thing about hot sauce for me, oh my god, I'm going to drink it like that. I'm just going to crack it open and drink it. Um, no, I really I've done that before actually. It's like, you know, the little kids when they would like suck the ketchup packs and stuff, like I would do that with hot sauce. I don't know why. I just I love spicy foods. And to me, I don't know. Some people feel like, oh my god, but it gets so hot you can't enjoy the food. So, I like kind of really spicy but not too spicy. But I just feel like it enhances the taste of things.

So the new EP Play It Again. Congrats!

Yes. How was the touchdown? I don't blend in. I'm a black sheep. And even then they still follow me. Have a song that I did with will. i. am on it called "Zoomin' Zoomin'," which is really, really fun. Um, let's see what else. Oh, I have my song with Pitbull on it, "Can't Get Enough," which is like the ultimate All my aunts love that song 'cause they're all obsessed with Pitbull.

Well, let's talk about working with these. Like will. i. am. I mean, at you're at you're like 16 now.

Yeah, 16.

Did now who approached who?

Well, it actually kind of happened really naturally. We were both working at the same recording studio at a studio in Hollywood. And um, I was working at the studio and he was working in the studio next to us and we hadn't met yet and Dr. Luke um, showed him my video and apparently he told me that he had a dream about me that night and that we made really awesome music. And he the next day he told me about the dream and he was like, look like at first it was like, oh yeah, you're dope. You're cool whatever. It's fine. It's just another YouTube girl whatever. Which is like, you literally like imprinted yourself in my brain. Like then the next day he

So what is he tell me what is the key to imprinting in will. i. am's brain?

I don't know. I don't know what it was. He saw he actually um, Luke showed him a bunch of like my cover videos and like the the video that Dr. Luke signed me based off of which was my cover of "Otis" by Jay-Z and Kanye that I posted when I was like 14. And um, he just showed him all those videos and I guess like literally the next day I got a call was going to the church with my mom and my manager called me he was like, "Hey, make sure Becky's not doing anything tonight. Hope you guys don't have any plans she has to go to the studio and she's going to be having a session with will. i. am."

What has been like the most incredible moment of your career so far, would you say? I know you've talked about J-Lo being in your video.

Yeah. That's one of them. That's one of them. Um, yeah. So shooting Becky From the Block is is definitely by far the like the most memorable moments so far. I mean, there's so many to choose from.

And I love that Casper was in the video too.

I know isn't that awesome? They're so amazing. They're so so cool to hang out with. Um, but I would say Becky From the Block not just because my idol was in the video like made a awesome cameo but I think that's really when it hit my family that this was real. Like I brought Like when she shows up. Instead of taking my family to Hollywood, I brought Hollywood to Inglewood. You know?

And when I know you you've said that you had a midlife crisis at like the age of nine or something.

Yeah. Which is exactly when most people have a midlife crisis.

When you decided that this is what you wanted to do before that when you said like when you were really little and you said when I grow up, what did you want to do when you were tiny? Like before you discovered music.

I said I wanted to be a singer. And I do remember at one point going through a phase I was like, I want to be a baseball player. I loved softball. But I was like, I'm going to play for the Dodgers and I'm going to play in the MLB.

And you said you did you sing the the national anthem?

Yeah. I did. I sang the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium, which my dad was like crying his eyes out. And I wanted to too 'cause I knew that was not only a big deal for him but for me too. But once I found out that girls couldn't play in the MLB, I was like, what? I can't play on the Dodgers? That's it. I'm just going to go be a superstar. I just want to I'm just going to I'm just going to perform on big stages and and act and and just do that.

And become the youngest Covergirl spokesperson.

Yeah. That too.

So, I know you you've probably learned a lot of makeup tips but what have you sort of give me sort of like a couple of your favorite Covergirl products and and sort of good make a good makeup tip.

Let me tell you Covergirl is the first makeup I ever bought. I started wearing makeup very, very young actually. I I say that it's another way I like to express myself besides music. And um, I started wearing it when I was like ten and my favorite products right now are the Inka eyeliner.

What's that?

That's like a liquid eyeliner. It's not a liquid eyeliner. It's like a cream based eyeliner. It's like a little stick, you know. It's really easy.

And um, I love like a simple cat eye for an everyday look. So one tip I can give you when you're using the Inka eyeliner is eyeliner in general is just very tricky to put on for some people. I mean, I know I had a hard time especially with the cat eye. So if you make sure your elbow's like on your knee or on a table, you avoid the like slips of like, you know, like when you're shaking your hand so hard and it just like

Yes. Especially when you're getting ready for a date or something. Your hands really shaking. It's shaky. Um,

Yes.

Okay. So, this is Bella and then I have a picture of oh, this by the way, this is me eating an Oreo milkshake in Miami. Thank goodness there's no hot sauce in it. I know. I performed at the Premios Juventud and then when I was out there I had literally the best Oreo milkshake I've ever had in my life. This is the one you're talking about. This is my baby cousin Bubba. His actual name is is Rene. I call him Nene and Bubba. Um, and this is a picture of him. I send like letters and postcards when I'm away. Even if it's like for three days, I'm already home and then they get it. But I love sending it. And so this is him when he got my my postcard from New York. Oh my gosh. Um, I love that it's all family stuff too. This is a picture of my surprise from Covergirl after I shot my first commercial.
