Hello.
Hello, how's it going?
I'm good. How are you?
Good.
You got here, sorry it took me a hot minute to start the zoom.
No, that's okay. That's okay. I've been in here.
You were prepared. Well, how's it going? How has your actual quarantine been? What have you done?
Uh. You mean so like for the past year? Yeah. It's been weird. Just like everyone else's. I mean, I've had ups and downs. Um. A lot of growth, a lot of setbacks. Yeah. Uh, but right now I'm cool. Right now I'm chilling. Um. Right now everything's cool. We're kind of coming back to opening things up and um. Yeah, I'm pretty stoked about that.
Well, when did you actually film um, Selena?
Um. First went down to Mexico to film in January of 2020. And then we got shut down in March. Yeah. I think March, and then um, and then we came back in September and then we were done in November.
Nice.
So. So yeah it was cool. It was it was spaced out because of COVID. But um. It's nice to go there, come back, and then go, go there again. Yeah.
Yeah. And when you were filming in Mexico had you you were like living there. Did you like it?
I loved it. I wake up every morning here missing it. I mean it was just uh. It was just such a beautiful place. Good food. Um, we were living like right on the water. Yeah. Yeah, it was, it was just like it was like a fairytale land, you know.
Do you think you ever moved there like once you're done acting in L. A. Like do you think you'd ever move there?
Oh no, man. It was it was really hard for me to come back home. Uh I I think I think if I had nothing else to do and I was chilling, I I might. I mean, I got friends there now. Um I know the local spots. I'm I'm pretty much a local there now. So, so yeah, maybe one day.
There you go. Okay, so we're gonna play uh the Selena quiz.
Sick.
Okay, so basically we're gonna ask you trivia questions about the original movie.
Oh.
To see how well you know the original movie and basically your part because I feel like you needed to know all of this to play your role.
Okay, all right. I'll do my best.
Okay, ready? So I'm gonna do the question there's like A, B, and C so you'll pick one of those. So you have options at least. You don't have to just freeball it.
Okay, cool. Take that.
Okay. So, what year in real life did Selena and Chris get married? Oh. A 1995, B 1992, C 1991.
91.
95, 92, or 91?
91's your final answer? Mhm.
It's 1992.
Oh! You were one year off! One year off. They never we never went over that. We never went over the years. We just we just filmed it.
That was you though! That was your year. But your that one's fine. Okay. All right. So this is movie related. Okay. How many words did Jennifer Lopez actually sing in the original movie? All of the songs, three of the songs, or 64 of the songs?
64. Are there even 64 Selena songs in the world? Probably. Um. It's a trivia question. I don't know. Uh, I'll go with B.
You got it. Ding ding ding! Yes! We'll do a buzzer, a ding for you getting that one right. She only sang three. Selena was the real real voice in the movie.
Yeah. Well, which which three songs were it?
That I do not know. That I did not research. We'll go back to that. I think she did the she one of them she only said like one word. So it didn't technically it wouldn't even count. And then the other two I'm honestly not sure. I figured out. Okay. What was the color of one of Selena's most famous outfits? Easy. Was it purple, orange, or red?
Hmm. I don't know orange. I I know I know but now I'm thinking. Um, I'm gonna go with purple because that was my that was my initial.
You said easy.
Yeah it's purple.
Yes! The one that she does it like the big arena? I think they shot it in Houston or something. Yeah. The Astrodome. You know what though? That outfit is like that color that's in between purple and red. So you can just get it right, I guess. As long as you didn't say orange.
Yeah, exactly.
Okay. So, Jennifer Lopez prepped for the role in a very iconic way. Did she prep by sleeping in Selena's bed and living with her family? Sing every song from the movie three times a day? Or wear big hoop earrings every day to feel the vibe?
One and three seem kinda weird. So I'm gonna go with two. Saying all the songs?
Yeah. She lived with her Selena's family.
Oh, what?
We need to quiz you on the Netflix show and you'll be like give the difference of that because that you know that.
Yeah, I'll know that.
She's she's stayed with her family.
Slept in there?
Yeah, she lived with her family. And she slept in her bed?
Hmm. That's I guess that's method, I guess, you know.
Yeah. She really really wanted to live in it. Eat, sleep, breathe it.
I guess so, yeah. Good honor.
How long did it take the real Chris Perez to watch the actual Selena movie? Five years, 13 years, or 20 years before he actually watched the movie?
Huh. Like her real-life husband? Yeah. Um. Let's see five. No, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. It's gotta be more like it's gotta be gnarlier. Give me the give me the the options again.
Five, 13, or 20. And it's been 25 years since it came out, right?
Okay. Uh. Damn, dude. I'm gonna say five.
20.
Fuck. 20 years? He took him 20 years to watch Selena. He must have just watched it. He must have just watched it. That's crazy.
Literally. Okay, last one. You'll redeem yourself right now.
What's my score right now? Zero. Just kidding, one. All right, cool. We're gonna count it to zero.
Okay. True or false? So you have two options. Oh, God. The reason that J. Lo became a musician was because of her role in Selena. True or false?
False.
It's true! What? She literally became a musician because of Selena. Like kept her career going.
Oh my God. Wait, wait, wait, wait. You literally got it wrong. There was no
Well, I wasn't in the movie so. So, wait. There's no
Hang on. She she had no music career before
Did she even have a music? She had a music career but the only reason she kept it going was because of Selena.
Oh, well, hang on. Hang on. Hang on. Hang on. Okay. You told me that. You said you said that the reason she was in music was because of Selena.
Well, online it says the reason she began her music career because I literally copy and pasted it. So technically it didn't say she was a musician before.
Oh. Okay. And before that she danced, I think. No?
Yeah, she did because she had to re-learn how to dance the way Selena did.
Got it, got it. Cool. Oh, wait. I know so much about this movie now. Dude. I do too now. Because of you. Literally because of you. Okay, well what did I do? I was one for five, one for six. That's not bad. I think one, two, three, four, five. There were five questions. One for five. But it's good because you weren't in the movie. You didn't have to study the movie. You had to study your character.
Yeah, that first question I probably should've known, but the rest of them, yeah, you know. That one was articulated to you. Ask me T. V. show questions and I'll probably do better. Or maybe not.
So your role like in the show were you excited to like be in love, like play a love role?
Um, yeah you know those roles are they're cool. Um. I don't know. I get I get like excited over doing like character roles. Like it'd be dope if I could play like a cowboy or a pirate or something just gnarly one day. But yeah, you know, the the love roles I kind of go out for those a lot and so I'm pretty familiar with them. And, you know, I guess like it's something that I know from my personal life. So it's not that hard to, you know, slip into that character. Um. yeah, it's it's cool. It's like kind of teaches you a lot about um.
Love.
about Yeah, about love and about people and it kind of like there were times that we would have uh like fighting scenes, me and Christian, and um, I would hear the stuff that we would say to each other. Yeah. And since we weren't like really saying the stuff and we weren't really passionately like heated, I would hear the words and I'd be like, hmm, this is like a weird fight. And this is the kind of thing that I would probably do in a relationship. Right. So maybe I shouldn't do this, you know, maybe I should think more before like opening up my mouth or maybe I should calm down before I start like, you know, saying things that I shouldn't. So it kind of it kind of helped shape me For as a person too. Yeah, maybe. Maybe not, I don't know.
Yeah. But it sounds like it makes sense, so you're good.
Yeah, yeah, in my head it did.
So what would be your dream role? Like what would like what would you love to do?
Um. Yeah, like doing something crazy like a like a western or or a pirate thing would be dope. But I did like play baseball my whole life. So it'd be really cool if I could if there was some like baseball thing or something sports related. I love sports. Yeah. Um, but since I know how to play ball that would be like that would be fun.
Easy. That would be you're like, okay. I can do that. That's fine.
Yeah. Yeah.
Well, that's it.
Congrats on the show and everything that you got going on.
Oh yeah. Thank you so much.
