I'm Oliver Trevena here at the Young Hollywood Studio with the man himself, Simon Curtis.
How are you, young man?
I'm wonderful, how are you doing?
I say young man, cause you are a young man.
You are.
Um, the glasses.
I've got to say, I saw your EPK.
Massive amounts of different trends of glasses, are they your owner thing or?
Yes.
Yeah, you know the whole the whole kind of image for, you know, my music and the kind of the character that goes with the album campaign is kind of like this neo-futuristic Buddy Holly look.
So, I found these glasses and that kind of gave the inspiration for the whole look for everything.
So you're out with the EP "8Bit Heart."
Yes.
And your new song, "Beat Drop".
Yes.
Yes.
I have well I haven't I haven't selected a single yet, but the album is called 8Bit Heart and it's available for free on the website.
Free, how do you make any money?
To pay for the glasses.
Now, uh, I've heard through the grapevine, Adam Lambert, you're gonna be writing on his new album, is that correct or is that?
Yeah, he did he did he did reach out for a collaboration which is incredible cause he's such an amazing talent and he's such a nice guy.
Like, I've I've I've really appreciated getting to know him and listening to the advice that he has for me because he's in the thick of it right now.
Now, going back to Adam Lambert, obviously American Idol.
What's your views on shows like that?
Have you ever considered it, cause I mean you do like.
I I auditioned for American Idol three times.
I never made it past the first round.
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
Not even the first round?
Not even cause you don't you don't make it to the to the judges.
That's like the fourth round of auditions after a whole week.
Um, the first round is like the big arena with just tents of producers and PA's set up and you just cattle call style just walk up and start singing.
Now, um, acting's been a huge part of your uh your career.
So you mentioned Spectacular Yes. and Hannah Montana, what was it like working with like Miley and Billy?
I I I love Miley.
She was she was fantastic.
I the episode that I was in wasn't with Billy Ray but um Miley was I you know you hear a lot of things about people who are that big and have that much fame.
And it was really refreshing to be on set with her for a week and see her come to work you know, no makeup, wet hair, drove herself, no entourage whatsoever.
Knows everybody's name on the crew, gets hug to everybody, thanks please and thank you everywhere.
I mean everything you hear about anybody, you know, like that you have to take with a grain of salt.
And so hearing things about her being a diva on set that's all totally false.
She was the coolest chick.
Now more research I've done.
You uh, you like Glee.
It's your favorite show is that?
Yeah.
Well I I love Glee.
I mean Glee's Glee everybody loves Glee.
It's it's a phenomenal it's a phenomenal show.
I mean Ryan Murphy, I love I love Nip/Tuck.
Popular was one of my favorite shows when I was really little, I loved that show.
Um, I just love his brand of comedy, he's so off beat and I I love the music, I love the cast.
I I love that show.
Seems like you'd be perfect for Glee.
The acting, the singing, the
Everybody's trying to get on Glee right now.
So I that's one of those things where it's like, you know, it's it's that's it's kind of like a dream come true job for any aspiring actor.
Um, now we we we haven't spoke spoken about it much, your album 8Bit Heart.
Yes.
And tell us about it.
Well, the album is kind of my homage to all of my inspirations.
You know, I I went and I I started working on the album just as, you know, kind of an experiment.
I wanted to record a couple songs with a new sound, you know, really kind of push my producer's comfort level as far as production is concerned.
That's not very nice is it?
No, that's what you have to do because that's when you have to
I know, but you have to push the boundaries, that's what makes stuff that's what makes that's that's when you find fresh material.
That's why Miley's not talking to you.
You worked with her for a week and pushed her.
No, no, no.
Um, but so I, you know, I went into I went into the project, you know, really wanting to explore things like using sampling, using 80s fantasy movie soundtracks and opera, that, you know, operas that I've been in.
And one night I found I stumbled upon this whole treasure trove of 8-bit video game samples.
And I knew immediately where I wanted to go, what I wanted to do and that it was going to be a whole album.
You know, it's it's inspired by science fiction and fantasy and 8-bit video games and just kind of there's a lot of nostalgia in there and there's a lot of, you know, me paying homage to all of my my pop influences within pop culture.
Well, young man, it's been an absolute pleasure.
Great grown up and a amazing talent such a young age.
Oh, thank you.
I appreciate that.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Appreciate it.
