RJ here, hanging out at the Young Hollywood studio with Jason Derulo. Hey, hey. What a year, man. We gotta talk. We caught up with you way back in the day, which we love doing when you were just starting on the set of What You Say. Right. We're on the set with you, Riding Solo. We're going bowling with you. We shot some stuff backstage for us. Yeah. A year later. I mean, nominated for VMA, you just performed at Teen Choice Awards. You performed at GAGA. I mean, what have you done this year?

It's been incredible. But I have, you know, my fans to thank for it. So shout out to Jason Derulo fans out there. You guys mean the world to me. Um, but yeah, it's, it's, it's been a heck of a ride, man, honestly. You know, like a dream come true. I couldn't have written a better story.

So let's, let's write the script a year from now. We're going to be sitting here a year from now. What, what's Jason Derulo gonna be doing?

You know, hopefully, this is my thing. I just want to continue on the same path of, of work ethic. Um, I think a lot of people fall into a trap and just kinda kinda relax on it. After, after you had some, some success, you know, you, you get comfortable. So a year from now, you know, I'm, I'm just as hungry as I am right now.

VMAs. I mean, you're against a lot of great people, but Eminem and Usher. I mean, these are two legends that everybody knows, have been in the game forever. And like, it doesn't get much bigger than those two guys. And playing against them.

Yeah, man. It's, it's, it's incredible. You know, two nominations for the MTV Awards. I was watching the show, uh, last year, you know, walking the carpet, nobody knowing who I was. You know, I was walking with Cara, Um, and everybody's like, "Hey, you, move to the side." Move to the side. They're trying to get pictures of Cara. So it'll be cool to, you know, to, to be, you know, an actual part of the show this year. And actually performing, too, this year. That's exciting.

So let's talk about the new tour that's coming up. You're doing it with AOL and Samsung. Any sneak peek of what, what we're going to see on this upcoming tour?

Um, well, you know, it's gonna definitely be a high energy dance show. Um, there'll be a lot of, uh, hot, steamy, sexy kinda stuff. You know.

Steamy, sexy always is good.

You'll see a lot of, a lot of new fashion from me, of course.

Nice.

Um, working, working on that, like, you know, every, every single day, you know, thinking of, of new fashion to, uh, bring forth to the tour. Um, the set is pretty cool, too. I, uh, designed the set myself.

Wow, impressive.

Yeah, so, yeah. It's gonna be, it's gonna be real cool, man.

So the impressive thing, though, is how, you know, a lot of talent comes through this studio and everyone's like doing their Jason Derulo impression. So Step Up 3D, a big movie that just came out. Right. The star was in here, Sharni Vinson. Randomly behind the scenes, this is what she starts doing. Look at this. Jason Derulo.

That's awesome. Honestly, when I started doing it, I had no idea it would become such a big thing. Because I, I heard other people do say their names in their songs and stuff. You know, I'm not the only one who does it. I guess, I guess mine is just like a jingle that people remember.

What was it like going on on tour with Gaga?

It was cool, man. She was an absolute pleasure to work with. She was, you know, a real sweetheart. Her and her staff made it really, really smooth and, and easy for me. It was my first tour.

I want to just talk about the evolution of your music, because you heard, you know, what you say and, like you get it, it was catchy, but then Riding Solo totally threw me for a loop. First time I heard, I'm like, it didn't even sound like you. It's like, who is this guy? Right. And then you hear the new one, you, you've got a ballad going on that again, it doesn't sound like Jason Derulo. Right. Like, I'm assuming that's a conscious decision, though, that you're trying to mix it up. It's like, I feel like I'm gonna hear like a country song from you one day or a techno song from you.

Absolutely. Um, yeah, me and uh, Carrie Underwood are in the studio right now.

For real? No. I wouldn't be surprised. I watch that, that's gonna happen. But I can see something like that happening. You really mix it up and you keep it fresh, which is, you know, so nice to see.

Yeah, you know, I, I really want to continue to reinvent myself. I think that's the key.

Well, Jason Derulo and this is one guy I look forward to seeing a year from now. I want to see you here in the studio and hear about Jason Derulo taking over the world and doing a duet with Carrie Underwood, maybe.
