'Grown Ups 2' Starlet's 80s Hunk Crush

Hi. Okay, so this is Hooton Sage, and I'm about to go into my young Hollywood interview. So, here we go. Oh my gosh. It's not an ordinary hotel room. Oh my god. My gosh. Hi.

Ah, yes. We both are a fan of the one different

The one different now. Now, how did you get started doing that?

I've been doing this thing. My little thirteen-year-old sister, I swear she's like my stylist. She's hilarious.

Thirteen-year-olds know more about fashion. It's crazy.

It is.

So, Grown-Ups 2. Yes. Insane. I mean, it's insane to work with those guys number one. And then it's a sequel. And so you've seen the first one and you know, I mean you know them for years how hilarious they are. One thing I know for you is you're obsessed with eighties movies.

Yes. Yes, I love them.

There's an eighties party in this film that you're in. Party scene. So, who did you dress up as?

I was Pat Benatar. So, it's like a purple unitard, the whole thing.

Wow. And then what else? I think wasn't Chris Rock Prince?

Yeah, there were a lot of different costumes and there were a few Madonnas.

Wasn't there like something with Shaq and you and like a dance kind of thing?

Yeah. So, we were filming the eighties party. Yeah. And there was a POV shot of me dancing. And we were just going about it. It was pretty simple. And all of a sudden, Shaq jumps into the scene and starts dancing with me. He wasn't supposed to be in there. I hadn't met him yet, at all. He just totally jumped in. It was hilarious. And I really honestly hope that's the take they use.

What's your favorite eighties movie?

Oh, About Last Night. I love Rob Lowe.

I've I've so I think I saw that in an interview that if you could have anybody follow you on Twitter, it would be Rob Lowe.

Yeah.

He's been here, sitting right where you're sitting.

Really?

Yes.

Oh, wow. I'm going to try and hold it together right now. Being on set with us First of all, who intimidated you the most, like when you first got on set?

You know what, my favorite part about filming Grown-Ups 2 was the community and how the set just felt like a family. And even though you would think going into this sequel where they've all worked together and and

And they've worked together for years.

Years, and you grow up watching their movies and they were just so welcoming, over-welcoming, so friendly and sweet and wanting to make you a part of the family. And that's what I will remember most.

So, I know in the in the trailer, there's a scene where there's like a car wash where there's like sexy girls and then Andy Samberg ends up washing cars and it's kind of a downer. If you in life could have anybody be your like personal car washer, every day for one month, who would it be?

I'm going to have to go with Leo DiCaprio. Leonardo DiCaprio.

Awesome choice.

Ever since since eighth grade, Romeo + Juliet. I remember seeing it in Miss Ganzert's class. I'll always be a fan.

Okay, so we have a little word association.

Ooh.

It's just with some of your co-stars from the film, but the first thing that pops in your mind when I say Kevin James.

Hilarious.

Lunch, because that's when I first met him.

What lunch?

It was at lunch. Yeah.

Um, Grown-Ups, because I he made me laugh so hard in the first one.

Adam Sandler.

Sweet. And and I love his dog. I the first time I met him, yeah, the first time I met him, I walked into his office and he had his big bulldog just sitting there and I think I went straight to the dog.

I like his bulldog.

Yeah. I was like, oh my gosh, what am I doing? But um, it was it it we bonded.

You did. Okay, Taylor Lautner.

Werewolf.

Werewolf. I love that you just put it out there. Why not? That's what you think about. Okay. And Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Oh, um, high school. Well, I know I know him from high school. We are

Oh, really?

Uh-huh. His school was across the street from mine.

So, did you you rode horses for a long time?

I did for eight years.

Do you still?

Um, I don't. I wish I did. I was so in it. It was my life. I was riding six days a week. I had horses. I took care of them. I was traveling on the weekends at horse shows. And and I'm kind of one of those person people who you're like, all in it or not at all. Right. So, but I definitely go back and I visit my old horses and say hi. And it was such an important part of my childhood because it kept me really focused.

So, how did you go from that to acting? Like, how did it sort of come about?

Well, I had always wanted to act and I think growing up in L. A. , my parents were really protective. And and they didn't know if it was really something I wanted to do or if it was just because I was surrounded by it. And I'm sure it's very different growing up in L. A. for for people who grew up somewhere else and actually come here specifically to do that.

Exactly. Cuz you're around it all the time.

All the time and you know people in the business. And and I just kept doing my school plays and taking um, scene study classes outside of school. And when I was fifteen years old, I finally said, this is what I want to do. And I think my parents were comfortable with the fact that I was who I am as a person and as a human being and I know my values and I wasn't going to let the industry change me.

Don't you think that's so important for parents to

Yeah. Yeah. So important.

to have a good background and

Yeah. I mean, family to me is my priority always. And and I'm really grateful that I have a great brother, a great sister, a great mom, a great dad. And and at first, it was frustrating, for sure, because you think you're you're just starting as a fifteen, sixteen-year-old girl and you're in the audition waiting room with all these kids who have been acting since they can walk. And but now that I've kind of started to work and kind of seen how everything goes, I'm really grateful for my parents' decision to make me wait.

You're working a ton. I mean, I know since Hadouken, six films since Hadouken. Yeah. You've got The Bling Ring. I want to know about That's Sofia Coppola. Yeah. Which I'm sure is a very different environment too from working with like Adam and those guys. How did it sort of compare for you?

Well, I'm I've been really lucky with my career in the sense that I've gotten a taste of drama and comedy, which has been really fun.

And that can be hard to do and do both too and have people accept you in both genres.

Right. Right, exactly. So, it's it's been a really good experience and I've had really great directors. I mean, that has just made it seamless, you know? And and no set is like the last. So, it's it's Yeah. fun. And that's what's exciting about it.

And Townies as well.

Townies. Yeah. Seth Rogen. Yeah. Yeah. That's That was a really cool experience for me because that was a lot of improv.

Had you done improv before?

Um, I had done a few camps at The Groundlings Theater, but I hadn't ever had the opportunity to really improv on a set. So, that was a really cool first experience.

And before I let you go, I saw on your Twitter picture of a treadmill. I with cookies. And you put the cookies on the like on the screen in front and you wrote something like, this is your motivation.

Basically, I I had been working out with a trainer and any of my friends know that my vice is anything sweet. Anything sweet, but cookies especially. Like, I have a cookie after every meal. And so he had been telling me how his girlfriend makes these awesome cookies and they're so good and they're Nutella and sea salt and dark chocolate and white chocolate. And as a cookie lover, of course, I went crazy. And so I showed up one day and he had put them on the treadmill. And that's your motivation. And it was the best motivation ever.

I think that I'm going to start doing that. It was awesome. Yeah, cuz they're your Twitter, oatmeal cookies are your favorite or something. Thank you. This is what she likes.
