Budget or Splurge? With China Anne McClain

You can't tell through the lens, but this girl smells so good. She walked out, I'm like, what is that?

Well, it's the special soap. Um, unfortunately, I got it in Atlanta. I can't get it in LA. It's like, the soap that my mom bought. And she brought it home and I'm like, what is this? It's like all natural, and it smells so good.

You smell so good. Has Taylor Lautner told you that you smell good? You haven't met him yet, have you?

I haven't met him yet.

Okay, you're in the same movie. I know. You're in Grown Ups 2 together. But you haven't met him, but I know you have a little crush on him.

Yes, I, it's not little. I have a huge crush on Taylor Lautner. But unfortunately, I was shooting Ant Farm while I was shooting Grown Ups. So I could only be there at Grown Ups for a short amount of time and shoot my scenes. Right. And of course, when I was there, he wasn't. So, doesn't that always just

It always happens like that. Were there ever days where you were there and you were thought he might be there? Or did you sort of find out ahead of time?

No, well there were times where I definitely thought he was there. Because I was like, okay, whoever is listening, please find out that Taylor Lautner's gonna be here during this time. But he wasn't, unfortunately. And I found out like the day I was there.

So working on this film, it's your second time. You were in the original, you were just a tad younger. Have the boys, meaning like the main core, the older generation, have they regressed in their maturity? Have they matured?

They're on the same. They haven't they haven't grown up at all. At all. For the first Grown Ups, I was just kind of there. I didn't really say much, but the whole family, all the families were together a lot in the first movie. But in the second one, all of the kids have bigger roles because we've all moved into the same neighborhood in this movie. Yeah. So they're focusing on people's like individual stories more. So all the kids have bigger roles.

And what I find fantastic is Chris Rock. He's done a cameo on Ant Farm.

Yes, he has.

What is it with they're like crushing your generation. Exactly. Having Chris come to Ant Farm. 'Cause that's sort of like your turf. Little bit. What was he like coming to set and working on it on a Disney show?

It was so great. He came in and he walked on set and he's like videotaping for his kids. And it was so cool. And nobody else like knew him. So the directors and everything were like kinda tiptoeing up trying to give him notes and stuff. But he was very open, like he was just great.

We're in season three, we're gonna have new episodes airing. And I know a lot of your fans, they're obsessed with your fashion on the show. In life, do you consider yourself a big like are you a shopper? Are you a fa- you are?

Well, I shop more online than I actually like go out.

You probably don't have a whole lot of time to go out and shop.

I love going out and putting like outfits together and finding like the perfect shoes to go with my shirt and stuff. And on Ant Farm, I have a lot of input for the fashion and everything on the show. Yes.

Do you take some of it home? Does it like does your character sort of blend into real life now where you're sort of you're swapping out, yeah.

Yes, at the end of the season, I do get to go into my closet and pick stuff out and see what I want to keep. It's great.

I need to come to your set. Okay, well let's talk about it. We're gonna we're talking today budget chic, but I know you brought a couple splurge items and you brought a couple of sort of more budgeted items. Are you consider yourself more of a budget shopper? Because I'm terrible. I like the high the high end. I'm not good with the low end. I'm trying to learn. I'm trying to learn how to shop on a budget.

So, first of all, I did really, I'm gonna show you something from my closet first. Yes. I'm gonna put you to the test because I have one dress that was a budget item and one that was a splurge. And I'm gonna see if you can tell the difference.

Okay. All right. Yes. So, you know that oh no I have to hide the price tag. I know. You'd never know that. You'd never know that. Okay, so you know how like printed dresses are like a really big thing for summer. Okay, so, one of these was a splurge. Oh my gosh. And one of these was a budget. Oh my gosh. Can we tell the difference?

Hm, I'd have to say I'm just gonna guess and say that was a splurge.

Are you serious?

I'm serious. This was $22. Thank you very much.

Really?

Thank you very much. And this was more like 200.

Are you serious?

Yes. Yes. So it goes to show you. If you can't tell the difference, I I really didn't need to splurge on it.

So what did you bring? Let's start with the splurge.

Okay, the splurge. Okay. I have to start with this jacket. Okay, when I saw that, you realized you're not taking that home. I'm I'm taking this home. I'm like I'm gonna keep it. I love it so much. I pretty much wear it anywhere. It's Guess, of course. And this was a little bit over 200.

It reminds me of Balmain. Balmain. Yeah. Oh my gosh. I love it. Don't don't learn. Don't learn. Dad's here. I'm not I'm not teaching you bad shopping habits while Dad's here. Yeah. We'll we'll learn it after. So let's go to a budget item.

So this was a budget item. This I would probably have to say was like 15 bucks.

This is great too. See, I love the camouflage look too 'cause you can mix it with different things.

Exactly. Well who doesn't love camouflage? I just love it so much because I wear it all the time.

So what would you put that with?

I would probably wear this with a T-shirt or a tank sort of like this and definitely jeans. Like see like what you have on. Yes.

All right, let's go to your next splurge.

My next splurge. I'm trying to guess which is which.

Guess. I think the pants for splurge. The pants were splurge. You're better at that. Okay. Um, the printed pants as you can tell.

I got these from actually Ant Farm. So you took these at the end of the season. Exactly. They were definitely a little bit more on the expensive side. I love the prints of them and they have different words on them like patient and all of this.

Did you wear them on the show? Did you wear them for an episode? They're very cute.

So that would you do color on the top or you'd keep it pretty neutral?

Oh no, I would definitely say you do color on the top 'cause they're just black and white. Right, okay.

All right. And then the last we know that this was a steal. The mustache is it a mustache? Yes it is. But it's adorable. It is so feel it is so soft. Oh yeah, see. Are you all about the soft shirts here? No, I am a scratchy.

No, I am all about the soft shirts. So where did you find this? This is adorable. I want this. I actually want everything that you brought and your vest that you have on. And my vest. Yes. It's so comfortable. But I got this from Kohl's. And I buy a lot of my clothes from like, you wouldn't even guess like Walmart or something like that or Old Navy. 'Cause I'm like a kind of inexpensive shopper 'cause my dad, he's kind of like, keep it on the lower side. But that's smart. Yeah. Save your money and be a great girl.
