"Austin & Ally" Star Laura Marano on Ross Lynch & Her Disney Channel Movie 'Bad Hair Day'

I decided to continue with blue. You said it's Alice in Olivia. Yes, yes. Um, I'm really excited. It's actually for their charity brand, which is so cool.

Yeah, I mean we're just in the blue theme. Why not?

I like it. I like it. So we obviously love you, uh in Austin and Ally. And you play a songwriter. And what's like your favorite musician right now, your favorite song? Who are you really feeling?

Oh, um, let's see. I love Taylor Swift. I got to say. I love Swiftie. Uh, obsessed. 1989.

I mean, Um, I love pink. I think she's incredible. I love her songs. Um, Jason Mraz, always a fan. Love him. I mean, come on, Sam Smith. Ed Sheeran. Don't even get me started on Ed Sheeran cuz I'm in love. He's British. And his And his newest song is like one of those wedding songs. All I all I can think about is like when I get married, it's one of the songs I'm going to play at my wedding. Oh my god. No, it's like what you're going to play at your wedding with Ed Sheeran, by the way. When you're marrying Ed Sheeran, is when I hear that song, I'm like, oh, I love you so much.

Okay, speaking of adorable people. Ross Lynch. He's been in the studio. And are you guys friends outside of filming?

We're all you know, the whole cast. We're all really really close. It's funny cuz we were close literally like the first day we all met. Right. Um, and we've actually somehow managed to get closer. Like now it's the fourth season. We have a group chat that we're constantly talking in. Oh, technology. Can't get enough of each other. Um, but it's so it's so lovely, you know. That's why it's it's a little bit of sweet because uh, you know, it's our season four. Um, and we're we keep joking that it's like our senior year of high school. Like we're all excited to move on to college and you know, move on to more different, more exciting endeavors. But at the same time, it's we've built a family there. So

Absolutely. Now, you are starring in a Disney original movie called Bad Hair Day. And tell me you play a Tech Wiz who's trying to be Prom Queen. Tell us the story.

So, Monica, the character I play, Okay. Um, the day of prom has the worst day ever. She she has her prom dress, uh, melt. Her, you know, prom shoes explode. And hence the title. She has a horrific hair day.

Oh, so this is about a crime.

I didn't say that. You implied it. I don't think I did. Look. No offense, but if you really are a private investigator, you're a pretty terrible one. Actually for the hair, the guy um, our hair guy used a pipe cleaner at one point. And it completely mixed perfectly well with the hair because it's that bad. Um, but you know, the only part of her outfit that isn't ruined is this necklace that she got at a pawn shop. Which just so happens to be a necklace that Miss Lee Ellen Baker's character, Liz, Okay. who's kind of down on her luck cop. No, is looking for this necklace. And so they strike up a deal. Um, Monica and Liz will ride in Liz's car. So Monica can kind of fix everything that's happening. While Liz will get the necklace after everything. But of course, Okay. things do not go as planned. Shenanigans occur. Chaos. And um, it kind of turned into this action buddy cop comedy movie, which was so much fun to shoot.

Oh my goodness. I can only imagine. It seems like you guys have a really great chemistry. Now, also on your Instagram, cuz I did some Instagram stalking. I saw a super cute photo of your dog, Velvet.

Velvet. Yeah.

Tell me what's going on there. You rescued her, I see.

Uh, no, I didn't. No. I was like, I don't know you I thought you tagged like a uh uh It was like um, like shelter or something? It was like a it was like National Love Your Dog Day. Okay, okay, okay. And I was kind of um doing an association with the Humane Society. I got it. I got it. Okay. All right. Um, I really want to start rescuing dogs. I would be That's number one. That's who I get. Second dog. Okay. Um,

What kind of dog is Velvet?

She is a Keeshond, which I'd never heard of before. She's like a mix between a Chow Chow, a German Shepherd and a and a like a Siberian Husky. Yeah, she looks like a wolf dog. She's amazing. She also is quite the barker. Whenever I'm playing piano or I'm like, you know, writing on the piano or I'm singing. Velvet's like, oh, I'll join too. And she sings. And it's really loud. It's really it's cute the first time. Maybe cute the second time, but you know, after that, it's it's not really that cute anymore, to be honest. You think? So I think I'm just going to do a solo career here. Thank you so much. Oh, PS, one more thing. We have two super fans. Our producer has two uh his daughter and her bestie. You mean the most adorable girls on Earth? Basically. And so we wanted to see if they would come and sit and bring the gifts that they gave you. And so I would love that. Kennedy. Emme.
