What's going on Young Hollywood? I'm here with Jake Miller. Hello. And he's going to be giving us a tutorial on how to use these U wheels that you guys have been seeing around town.
Spaceships. Spaceships.
Yes. I feel like you're going to fall. I'm going to fall. That was, what's the key? How do you get on these things?
Well you have to I get on this thing and we'll we'll start we'll start from there. Okay. You have to first of all you have to you have to be the board. You have to be the board. Sync it to your brain. So uh there's a little brain button. I'm just kidding. But for real there's a button to turn it on and a Bluetooth button cuz these are super cool and you can hook up your music to it. I was gonna write you a love song just the other day. I sat down and thought real hard but nothing ever came. Yeah. I took a walk downtown and it hit me like a train. Yeah. So I grabbed a napkin and started scribbling away. And I was like whoa, oh, whoa. Sexy can't make up for crazy. No, no. And girl, you crazy.
The song selfish girls, we just heard upstairs. Tell me what the what the inspiration was behind that.
Everybody asked me that. Uh I didn't really have I didn't really model it after like a specific girl or a specific story. I just wanted to make a kind of John Mayer-esque track with a little bit of uh Jake Miller humor. So, I think it's a cool, fun, funny song. Um I have other songs on there that have a little bit more meaning to it. I have a song called Sunshine about my friend who passed away. I just released a video for that. Um I have a song on there called Yellow Lights. The video's coming out pretty soon. It's really cool. And uh yeah, and then we got Rumors and Shake It. So just five really cool songs on the EP. My fans made the made the EP go straight to number one in like 10 minutes on iTunes. So thank you to everybody watching this who bought the EP.
I I really feel like your voice has like matured in like the way you're singing and it if you've been practicing a lot on your vocals or how are or is that something you've really been motivated to get into with with the singing on the tracks?
Uh yeah, I think so. I mean I started out uh years ago just rapping and I never really thought that I would ever get into singing. And uh I think I kind of discovered that I could sing. So I started diving more and more into that. And so now I'm I'm really singing more than I'm rapping. But rapping will always be a part of me. So I think I'll I'll always stay rapping and singing whether it's whether it's no no rapping in one song or no singing in one song. I'll probably always come back to both of them. Yeah, and I'm over it like a flash. She loved herself way more than she loved me. Only cared about her Instagram captions. So this is the last song I'm ever going to write for you. Go find a douchebag, maybe he'll be right for you. And if you wonder why your phone ain't ringing, call my voicemail and I'm going to start singing. Selfish girls, they want the whole wide world. They just want everything. And they cry when the sky ain't blue. This song is for selfish girls. They want the whole wide world. They just want everything. Yeah. And there ain't nothing I can do. First thing you gotta do, you gotta be you gotta be confident, you know? Be the board. So you put your first foot on, then you put your second foot on. And you just balance.
Okay, so first foot, second foot. Everybody got that. Here we go. First foot, second foot.
There we go. A little smoother than that, but you'll get it.
I'm stuck in a groove here.
That's that's how everybody when they first get on it do like But you just got to balance. So how how do you go forward? How do you move forward? So you just lean with your toes, put some pressure down on on your toes, and to go backwards you put pressure on your heels. To spin, put pressure on one foot. You're not doing very well. This is the first tabs you've ever done. What was your first job?
My first job?
you ever had? It was at a supermarket called Publix in uh South Florida. And the dad turned 14. I was able to apply for the job. And uh I sat in like a classroom and trained for this job with like like every other person in this in this room was like 60 and up. And I was like the only kid who was like 14. And I was just I just really wanted to work. I wanted to make my own money. And then uh and then I worked at Cold Stone, the ice cream place, which I got fired from because I stole ice cream. I didn't really steal ice cream. At the end of the night I washed it down the sink instead of saving it for the next day. And they said I stole it. But whatever. Uh I worked at a a country club cleaning golf carts.
We'll get your whole resume. We'll get your whole resume.
we'll get your whole resume. one of the first up. So obviously, you got the spin move. It's a very very nice little handy trick when you want to see 360 degrees. You got you got backwards. You know. When you just when you just want to go in reverse. I got this I got this little one. It's like break dancing or something. That's pretty much all I got. If you have like a nice little nice little lady friend maybe, you can fit her on the on the board sometimes. You can do two people on one board if the person's small enough. But uh I don't have no lady friend with me right now. So I'm riding solo.
I feel like you probably love shoes. Shoes? What's your favorite pair, y'all?
Uh my Yeezy's. Yeah. Yeah. Shout out to Kanye. Yeah. Love those. Sometimes you gotta wear some boots. I like the boots. Boots are dope. Yeah. Give a good shout out to those boots.
What uh what was the what was the first your first concert that you ever attended?
In Sync. In Sync? Yeah. And I ended up performing in the same arena that I saw that show at. Really? Yeah. It was it was really cool. My hometown arena.
We're like, I'm going to play acoustic guitar, I'm going to try this out, and you wrote us and you wrote your first song.
Mm. Uh, it's probably a song that I wrote for like my mom on Mother's Day. When I was like 15. But it was probably really bad. But I've always been kind of just like experimenting with the drums and guitar. Uh but I really started writing my own music when I was in high school like seriously. I thought you were a dime but you love me for my dime. Selfish girls will be the death of me this happens every time.
recently moved to Los Angeles. Yes. What are like some of your favorite new spots or places that you've been going to in LA?
Uh I go to the Grove pretty much every day. So you probably will see me there. Um Well, it's just I I I put up Snapchats literally every day at the Grove. It's just a really nice vibe. And uh I'm I'm really just in the studio all the time. So Yeah. Either that or my house or doing cool stuff like this. But Yeah.
Jake Miller here, guys. Taught us how to use the U wheels. Here's my trick. It's pretty good. Pretty good. He's getting good at it. Yes. Thank you.
