We're excited to talk to you about The Right Stuff that's coming out on Disney Plus.

Yeah, yeah, it comes out October 9th.

Yep, and you're Captain Gordo Cooper, right? That's

Yeah, Gordo Cooper, yeah.

So you're Commander Alan Shepard in the film. Yeah. How was it, how did you prep for the role?

I took a road trip. So, usually, you know, you fly to the location you're filming in, and I live in uh, L. A. most of the time. And we were shooting in Florida, where all this actually happened. Um, so I decided to take a road trip from L. A. to Florida and listen to the book on tape while I was on that trip.

Did you go by yourself? Did you just drive?

I did.

How was

Yeah, I had an I had an option to go with a friend and then um and then they flaked. I'm just kidding. I told them to uh that I wanted to try it on myself. It was good. I don't know what this says about me, uh but I honestly got to Florida and was like, I could do that for like one or two more weeks.

Have you ever flown anything in your life prior to filming?

No. I don't think so.

If you actually had the chance to go to space, would you go?

Yeah, I think so. For sure.

Maybe.

You sounded a little hesitant.

Yeah, of course, I would. Would you not?

No, I'd I'd probably would. I'd be so scared, but I'd probably would end up going.

Look, I didn't I didn't anticipate getting as nervous as I did watching the last SpaceX launch. Like, once it got under two minutes, I was like, "Oh man." For a guy that's on the show about The Right Stuff, I really don't have it. Um But, you know, eventually, hopefully

We won't rule it out.

We won't rule it out. I won't rule it out. And when it gets, when it gets, you know, regulated and it's safe as like taking, you know, a ride share somewhere. It's like, "Oh, you want to split a trip to Mars?" Like, then totally. Yeah, I like much rather go to space now than in 1959. You know, when essentially they were sitting on top of a nuclear rocket.

Yeah, we would definitely have a lot better technology now. Yeah. How was it like kind of behind the scenes? 'Cause it's a pretty phenomenal cast.

And it was great. I mean, everybody was excited about the project, which is always good. Um, everybody likes to work hard, which is great. Um, and then, you know, us being all in Orlando last summer was all we had was each other. It was great. It was great to sort of be uh, close to where it all really happened. Um, it was hot.

Did you get a chance to go on any of the rollercoasters?

Uh, yeah. Yeah, I did the Harry Potter ones. Uh, and then we uh uh, obviously, because we were at Disney, uh, on the show, we got to go to Disney World for for the day and had a great time there.

You How do you plan to watch? Are you gonna watch it with your family when it comes out?

Yeah, I'll watch it with my family 'cause, uh, I'm in Ireland, so I'll miss the premiere and stuff like that, because obviously I can't fly over. Um, but I'm very excited, very excited to to watch it on uh a big screen, you know.

Are your kids how old are your kids?

Uh, they're seven and three.

Okay, so will they under like will they understand when they see you on there? Or will they just be like, "Oh, there's Dad."

Uh, I look very I look very different than they're used to. I normally have my beard but I'm sort of clean shaven in the show, so I'm sure it'll be a bit of a shock to them, but, uh, um, yeah, we'll see. We'll see if they what they think.

But it is a really, it's a really good cast. How was it behind the scenes working with everybody?

Oh, we all hated each other. I bet. I don't know. Um, just it was just a pleasure. I mean, we became like a family, um, to be honest. And you know, we were all sort of in Orlando together, and none of us are from there and some of us had families in respective wherever we were from, and yeah, it just we just became family. We just spent all day, every day together. The weekends we spent together, all of us, and became incredibly close. And you know, we were really blessed because that doesn't always happen. So, Yeah. It's uh, it became similar to the brotherhood that those astronauts really sort of lived in, you know.
