About this video

Sometimes acting is hard work, sometimes acting is like a mini-vacation, and sometimes acting is an opportunity to explore different ways of life. Sometimes, it's all of the above! That was the experience for actors Matthew Daddario and Charlie Barnett during filming for their western drama 'Wild Game', shot on location in beautiful Wyoming! Young Hollywood catches up with Matthew and Charlie via Zoom to find out about how they did their own stunts, what they did in their downtime between scenes, and how they walked the walk by working on a ranch! We also play a game of "What Would You Do" to discover what they would do if they had no access to their phones for a whole day, what they would do for a career if they hadn't become actors, and more! 'Wild Game' is now available on digital & VOD!

Well, what's up? How are you guys doing?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

I'm good. I'm good. Thank you for having us as well.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Yeah, I'm doing great. Thank you for having us.

Young Hollywood

When was the last time you guys saw each other in person?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Oh, when was it? like a year ago was it?

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Yeah, it must have been a year ago. Yeah.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Yeah. It's been too long. That's

Young Hollywood

Time is, you know, the last two years, time has just like been a blur for everyone. So, I don't know. Wild Game coming out December 17th. How are you feeling? When did you film it?

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Oh, we filmed it back way back, way back when it feels like now, as you said, time seems to go real real slow but we're very happy that it's coming out now. It's a good time for it to come out, right before the holidays. Yeah, we were up in Wyoming for it, so it was it was it was a really beautiful experience, but, you know, I think we all lost track of like where we were, which is a good place to be if you're going to be in a Western, right?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

That's right.

Young Hollywood

Now that it is coming out around the holidays, are you guys going to binge watch it or you're going to watch it a ton?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

I've seen it. Yeah, binge watch it. I feel like I've watched, how many times have you seen it, Charlie?

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

I've only seen it twice, but I'll go for another couple rounds. I don't mind. I'm not. Yeah, I'm I'm going to go back. I I'm definitely I'm I'm getting it on Friday night. Let me tell you what. I'll go to New York and sit with your dad. Matt's dad came and visited us and he was a blast, but if we get to watch it with him, I would love to. I just for another round. It's always good to have analysis from people of different, you need different, what is it? We need to do a do a study of uh uh product study. See what the various groups like. What is that call again?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The um we they sit everybody in a room and then

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You need to get everyone from all walks of life, all age groups, everything. That's what you need to get. That's what you need to get for Wild Game. There you go.

Young Hollywood

What do your friends say about it? Have they any of them seen it or are they waiting till it's out out?

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

I'm pushing it on all my friends on on Friday. I'm not giving them the pre-product. They get the final thing. They got to go whenever everyone else goes. There's no early access. Come on. What is this?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Agreed. I sent the link to for my sister to buy it. So that maybe

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Buy it. Just the same thing. Made her buy it.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Half of our friends though are are literally a part of it. So you know,

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

We're saying that they already know.

Young Hollywood

So you guys both did all your own stunts in the film?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Stunts. I mean, you know, we weren't doing anything too backbreaking out there, but yeah, we were running around. Uh, I think Charlie might have uh doubled for me a few times to keep me safe. Uh, Charlie Charlie's way better on the horse than I am, so.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

And I'm I'm still pretty lack luster, I'll say that as well. There was probably a couple stunts that we didn't have planned that happened that they caught, you know. When you do your own stunts, more stunts happen.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Of course.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Exactly.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. When did you guys actually meet each other for the very first time? Was it when you got cast for the film?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

I feel like I met you, Charlie, how many years ago? I don't know, New York, or I met you at your place in LA, years and years. I've talked about this out there. I think we met in New York years ago, but we don't remember it, which is probably a good sign, you know. It's it's, you know, the times back then, things are things are foggy.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Yeah. Yeah, good signs. We when we got out to Wyoming though, was the first time we had seen each other in years. I know for sure.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure.

Young Hollywood

When you weren't filming, what did you guys do like when you hung out? Did you play cards? Did you just practice lines? Was there a certain thing? Cuz you're up in Wyoming.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

I mean, it was not really that kind of, we were busy, it seemed like all the time and then uh the only if you had time off, you were sitting down. It was actually we had beautiful weather, we'd sit out in the sun a little bit if we had time to do that. Um, go help with the horses, help with the ranch, eat dinner. That was nice. I always like to eat dinner. That was good. You know, so many of the scenes too were that the writers were open to us improv and exploring so many things that became kind of like the hang out points for when we were filming and we were filming, you know, the whole time pretty much, like straight through.

Young Hollywood

Do you think that you guys could have real life as a Western? Like, would you want to have that life as your life?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

No.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

I mean, you kind of lived that, didn't you? At some point, didn't you work on the ranch for a while?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

I worked on, I worked, yeah, the the place we filmed it, the the owners had a ranch that I worked uh He actually, who's he's the lead of the show as well, Creed Garner, his dad owned a ranch and he went to college with me as well and we worked on the ranch for about like four years, it's a dude ranch, but, you know, dude ranch ain't the same as a ranch. I I'll put that out there.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

No, no.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Yes, uh, I mean, we took people out on rides, we took like pack trips and stuff like that. Um, but mostly uh, it it was the it's the Disney version maybe of Cowboy? It's like it's it's it's perfect for city slickers. It's perfect for people like me from New York, to get a taste of of what it requires. Oh, when I was there, I feel like, you know, every every morning Creed's running down and and doing work and I'm like, you know, I could get used to this, but I'm only seeing a piece of it, you know, I'm not seeing the winner. I didn't see the winner and I didn't see you know, so there's a there's a lot that goes into it that I just don't have the skill set for it. So realistically, I couldn't do it. Although maybe I could. I could handle it. Why not?

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Yeah, of course. You did it for a while, man. You were out there. That's the beauty of going out to that ranch specifically, if we can give it a hype for Three Spears Ranch out in Wyoming. Oh, man. Um, Creed who now owns the ranch as well, who was in the movie, um, he works it like it's a real ranch, you know, so when you're there as a friend too and if you're staying for free, you're getting up at 5:00 AM and coming down to irrigate, feed some animals,

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Where all the your animation channel, go get feed some animals. We did that.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Yeah, that pig will eat you too. Don't go near that pig.

Young Hollywood

Okay, and now we play a little game. It's called, what would you do? Okay, so I'm going to give you scenarios and then you're going to answer them. Okay? What is the first thing you'd do if you found out you had three days to live?

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Damn, hit us hard. For real, just go right there. Really got to think about this one. Do you want to go first? What kind of scenario is this?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Realistic? I'd get my affairs in order. You know, then I do everything over the next three days to prevent that impending death.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

I'm already thinking like, I'm going to go hang out with my family. I'll go to Disney. I'll just, you know, go on a sailing trip. I'm giving up. I'm going with you, Matt. I'm going to change mine. I want to I want to at least put in the effort to figure out how to stop it. Until the end. There, no way. There's no way this hypothetical three-day scenario is is going to work out. I'm going to I'm going to kill whoever's responsible for it.

Young Hollywood

There you go. What would you do if you found out that your character in Wild Game was your best friend in real life?

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Oh, good God. My character. You can take that three day off. Donnie is hell no. Donnie's the worst. Donnie's absolutely the worst. Oh God, I hate Donnie. So much. No way. Not going to happen. I don't want to be friends with them either. No, hell no. Have a poor Victorian. Not an impendent.

Young Hollywood

Okay. What would you do if you lost your phone for the day and you couldn't get a new one? Would you be fine?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

I'm freaking thankful. I'd take the day and have a glorious event and, you know, live my life. I survive.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

I'd put my phone in a different room and then I'd spend my whole day without it. And then once it's out of sight, out of mind, I don't have to think about it. I hate I hate it. It's the worst. It attaches you to all the things you have to do. That is another great part about going out to that ranch, the sub-reception. No contact. Yes. You are alone. I'm sure they've upped it, you know, just for all those people who are worried, you know, there's there's a spot you can go. We just didn't want to go to that spot.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Yeah, no. We didn't bring the phones.

Young Hollywood

What would you do if you could be famous for one thing besides acting? This fame must mean success. It means you've had success in some area and therefore you're famous for it.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Yeah. Okay, not like famous for like falling down and and embarrassing yourself at some sort of public address. Unless that's what you choose, you know,

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Unless that's yeah. Unless that's you want to be famous for that. Hey, lots of reasons.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

It's sort of like asking what what would you like to do that's great for any reason.

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

You could be like, I want okay, I want to be famous for being the first man on Mars. But maybe not, I don't know. I want to be famous for solving disease and curing disease. I don't know. Anything. You give me a thing I'm I'm in the mood for it. Yeah, I'll take that. Clearing out all the plastic in the oceans, you know, do some want to be famous for the right thing. Yeah.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

That feels a little bit like the question like, what's What was the question they always asked the contestants in those old things, they'd be like, what do you want and they'd say world peace. So like that. It's just a different format of that question. That's a good yeah. Yeah, that one. That's fine.

Young Hollywood

What would you do if you had to film a Wild Game 2?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

100%, yeah. Yeah, like a heartbeat. I'd go. I'd probably out there say we'll do it tomorrow. I'd be like, all right.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

Yeah, I don't mean to be a spoiler, but I don't know. I surely don't know where all of us would go from this next one, but yeah. I mean, maybe revenge. There's always room for revenge. Throw them back on board. Throw them back. Oh. Well, that's the game. Did you have fun?

Wild Game's Matthew Daddario

Yeah. Yeah, of course.

Wild Game's Charlie Barnett

There you go.
