Spontaneous's Katherine Langford & Hayley Law Recall Their IRL High School Experiences

We're excited to talk to you about spontaneous, the new film you guys are in. It's very relevant, I think, to times today, when you think about it. When was it when was it actually filmed?

Uh yeah, we filmed this. It's kind of crazy. We filmed this a couple of years ago, and I was just saying that I I read the script, I think about three years ago. So, when we filmed this and even when we read it, you know, the world was a very different place to to what it is now. Um, which is which is interesting and strange at the same time to be releasing something like this in the current moment.

What was it like after reading the script how to prepare for it because it's a very big idea of like, you know, people exploding, so.

When we filmed this, like now it I think coming out now, kind of accidentally it's gonna hit a lot closer to home than it was intended to. It's it's meant to be a satirical comedy, sort of like a premature existentialism if you will. Um, but when this was happening, there's no real life to draw from this. This was a crazy, new, bizarre, unique idea and everyone was like, wow, this is wacky. But now, you know, obviously there are parallels that are a bit closer to home.

is really like both of you spoke on it how it's so ironic because a lot of more people will be able to relate to this movie now. Like it's a big idea to come out now. So.

Yeah. I remember being like, imagine having to quarantine. That's crazy.

Yeah. Who would have thought? Who would have thought, you know? We're we're all doing it now, so.

Of course you guys have both been in things that you go back to high school. But what was it like every time you guys like film going back to high school? What what's your favorite part about it?

This is a hard question because I hated high school so much so I'm like, um, uh, okay, I'll say the best part about it is that it's not my high school experience. That it's not real.

You get to relive your high school.

No. I get to walk out at the end of this high school because I love I've I've loved the high school projects that I've done, but I truly didn't love high school, so the best part about it is like this is a fun high school experience. It's not like my real high school experience. But it is fun. I'm just like, wow, I have the mindset now that I wish I had in high school, you know? So I can come into this and be like,

That's such a great I was going to say, I didn't like I I went to school in Australia, um, so and I was like, wait, when I think this is the we did this like two or three years ago, so it's been a second since like playing that character, but I think the the coolest thing for me when I did like my first job and even this on both projects was like the red carpets, because in Australia we don't have red carpets. Like I feel like Australians and a lot of other countries, we live perpetually through American and British high school movies and college movies, and so all this stuff, like Halloween, like it doesn't really exist in Australia. And so I like doing prom scenes or whatever, which I feel like I've done. Um, it's cool because I feel like I'm vicariously living through my characters. Um, yeah.

We don't have that in Canada either. So I can see.

No.

It's only when you're done high only grad when you're done high school, but there's no like prom or anything.

Yeah. So you really do get to live it. You're you're living what you missed out on. Well, perfect. Well, thank you guys so much for talking to us today. Young Hollywood.
