Your new film is based off a novel. What author wrote it?
Claudia Tan.
Okay. Thank God. Did you read the book?
No, I didn't read the book, but I spoke with Claudia before we were filming. I got to meet her. Um, and the director Castille basically said to me like, we're gonna do a spin-off of the actual book. You don't need to read it. If you want to, you can. Not a big reader, I will say that. But I read the script four times through. Yes. Um, and I originally liked the role of Kaden and I kind of was like,
Not you being a good guy.
Yeah, I wanted to be the good guy. I've always wanted to be the good guy. I wanted to be the hero, and it didn't work out, but it worked out for the best in the situation that I was in for sure. When I had my first director session with Castille, she was like, no, you're perfect for Jacks. Like, this is exactly who I was looking for. So it worked out.
Yeah. Was it hard being Jacks to be honest? Was it cool to be like of
At first, when I read Jacks, when I read Jacks, I didn't wanna be him because I was, I was troubled with how challenging it was gonna be to actually be a liked character. Yeah. Like, it was more so I want to be liked and I wanna have, you know, a perfect redemption. I wanna have a second film. And the way it was written and I was reading it when I went over with Castille, I was like, how is anyone gonna like this guy? Like, he does so many screwed up things that I'm just like, there's just it's just gonna be impossible to like this guy. And she was like, I think you can really do it. We went over some of the lines that I was uncomfortable with where I'm like, we gotta switch this up. Like, I gotta say something different here that's still a jab, but like somewhat likeable. Can be a little bit Yeah. So I hopefully I captured it well to where the audience doesn't hate me that much.
You you're likeable a little bit in the end scene in the hospital.
Yeah, yeah. But like other than that, like months And they're they're also prefacing the perfect redemption where it's like, do you think I can be redeemed? She goes, no. She's like, I wouldn't put my money on it. But sleigh, that was a good line by her. So you love that line. So that's that's And then I bite the cookie. Love that one. Yeah, you're probably right.
