Kristen Stewart on Transitioning from 'Twilight' to 'On The Road'
About this video
We sit down with Kristen Stewart to get the scoop on her decidedly non-vampiric role in 'On The Road', a big screen adaptation of Jack Kerouac's classic novel about the non-conformist Beat Generation of the late-1940s. She tells us how she won the role in the Walter Salles-directed film, how she feels about moving on from the 'Twilight' franchise, and she also reveals one of her lesser-known talents! Hosted by Baruch Shemtov (@baruchshemtov).

So, you actually didn't have to really audition for this part. Is that right?
Um technically no, I didn't have to read any scenes, but I I did have to um, I mean I I went and sat down with Walter and we talked about the book for a while and I was like absolutely dumbfounded driving away because I just had a feeling. I was like, he's gonna hire me, I know it. Like, he's gonna hire me and I don't have to do anything and I sometimes after you audition, you've sort of proved to yourself that you can do it and even in this case, I was um still questioning it. I was like, really, are you sure you haven't even seen me do anything.
But he senses a real connection between you and the character.
Yeah, I think that he senses that we that we both had a very similar feeling about it. It was like, you know, when you um when you get giddy about something and then you look over and you're like, oh, you're feeling the exact same thing. It was like, uh that I think that's what he was mainly looking for. He has an insane ability to bring people together that are there for the same reasons.
What's it like to transition from movies like Twilight to a film like this one?
I don't know, I, you know, actors we jump around like um, I guess from an outsider's perspective it looks like this big departure. I I felt really sort of lucky enough to have time off in between every single one of the Twilight movies. Um I know that it looks like this, you know, like it's this really very different thing for me. But um, I had been waiting to do you know, I I I knew that I was gonna do this movie before I even did Twilight.
You are multi-talented people may not know that you're actually a very good chef. What are you cooking up right now for the holidays?
I don't know yet. I I'm really very much on the fly and when it comes to cooking. I did recently do my first um Thanksgiving dinner. I did a whole tur I did like a 16 pound turkey. It was pretty exciting. I was so I mean, you know, it was intense. It was fun.
You've also recently been named a fashion influencer by Vanity Fair and others.
Influencer. Yes.
What's your own personal approach in your own style?
I don't know. It would be so funny if I had an answer for that too. They like, well, I like to feel like myself.
That's a good answer.
Yeah, I mean, I guess that's you know, that's the cool thing about clothes is you can go like, I didn't know that I could do this. It brings out different sides.
That's right. Well, thanks a lot.
Thank you.
