Harlem Cast Reveal Their Ideal First Dates

Hi everybody. Guys are so pretty. Thank you. Guys look so great. So great. Tyler, do you ever get told that you look like Drake?

Man, if I had a dollar for every time I heard that, I wouldn't need to be working no more.

Better that. Better that. I was watching the show and I had to bring it up because I was like, he really looks like Drake. But anyways.

I I knew you, I knew you was waiting to get that out.

Well, congrats on Harlot about to come to the world. Are you guys excited?

Yes. So excited.

So excited.

So, how did y'all meet? Like when you first, did you meet when you all got casted or did you know each other prior?

Me and Grace knew each other prior for years. We literally had just done um her show. She has a uh show online called Sit and Sip and we literally were talking about how we would love to do a show together. And so I found out that Grace got the role of Quinn first. And then I found out about Jerry who I hadn't met yet and then I knew I was coming in and testing with Shaquana and it's so crazy because I was working with a mutual friend of hers like years ago, like five years ago, and he put us on the phone together. And she was like, "Girl, we gonna work together." And I'm like, "Yes, we are. Claim it in Jesus name." We never met each other before. So we met each other when we came in and tested and then Tyler came in and tested and we were all like, "That's the guy right there." And then now we're just like a big family, basically.

Yes.

Tyler, what's it like being on set with all the girls? That's how you met.

Oh man, I gotta tell you it's like um I I joke with them often. I say they they're uh I'm an only child so they're like the sisters that I always wanted. So it's like I mean, I know the saying is about like two peas in a pod but they're just like four peas in a pod. So it's like it's nice to be on set, see how they how do they handle their situations, break down their scenes, you know, find their arcs, but it's like, you know, it's been a treat to to develop a friendship off set too. You know, you don't get that often.

For sure.

And who who out of all of you guys relates most to their character in the show?

I feel like I

Oh. People keep telling me that Ties me and I don't want them to think that. Yeah, but you know so maybe that is the truth. Here we are.

Listen, I get the same thing with Angie like, "Oh, you're Angie." And I do outwardly present myself sometimes as a vivacious and kind of a little bit off the cuff but I am not nearly as much of a truth truth teller as Angie. I wish I could be that bold and courageous.

Yes.

Yes. And as we've been uh developing our characters, there's been a running joke that all of us have really had on set with each other where we'll be like, "Grace, that was a really Quinn moment. This was a really Angie moment." you know, and like, "Oh, Jerry, that was very Ty. Megan, that was very Camille." And so we actually see a lot more similarities in ourselves that we do with our characters, more than we I think more than we expected. So.

That's so cool.

Now, my only difference is I can I can throw down in the kitchen. I can I can put together some ones and twos but I can't really cook like Ian though. So, I'm not really like that.

Oh, you cook. Tyler, don't tell nobody else that. Keep that to yourself. Don't hyping you up.

Let's not don't get it twisted though. My ones and twos going to hit though. So, you know, I can put a little something together. Right. The scramble eggs might be fire. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. With the with the cheese on. Yeah, I need the cheesy eggs. You feel me?

And for each of you, what is your ideal first date? Because obviously the show has a lot of dating in it and, you know, love. So, each of you first ideal or ideal first date.

Um, a private jet to Dubai. It's ideal for me. I think that's just enough for a first date.

The bar. Yeah. Precisely. Um, for me, I I found out recently that I'm an energetic lover and I am a very um

We all have questions now.

Okay. We'll talk about we'll talk about it later. Um

Number ten, y'all. Stop it. Stop it.

Um so, so I feel like an ideal first date for me, one, I would love for somebody to plan some. I feel like I'm always planning some. For somebody to say, "Hey, meet me here at this time and we're going to do this." And I like anticipation cuz I am a sexual person, so I am ready to jump the boots. Okay. But if we could like have some like sexy anticipation, like you don't know if it's going to happen but it might and then it does.

Make sure it does, yeah.

Yes.

For me, for a first date, I, well, I'm married now, you know what I'm saying. But back in the day, um I really loved anything that had to do with genuine intimacy. And intimacy can be a lot of things and and for me it wasn't I wasn't really looking for that physical intimacy on the first date but I really wanted an intimate connection. So, you know, like seeing a movie or anything like that wasn't really my number one because I wanted something where we could just sit and really commune with one another and really get a chance to know one another on a a deeper personal level. So, I think a quiet dinner, a walk on the beach, something like that where we can really get to know each other, I think was sort of my ideal first date. Yeah. And not to get catfish. Never to get catfish.

Um, I'm gonna say basically same as Grace. I just want to be able to sit and talk. And like just like look into each other's eyes and just have that moment and just like communicate and just like really get to know someone um before, before, before we get to having some fun. But like, you know, just connect.

Okay, y'all. Y'all take y'all time. I get it. Yes. That's all right though. That is okay, baby. That's all right. I'm over here like, spend a million dollars. Right now. Trying to get the jet, you trying to get the jet on the first date.

Absolutely.

You're not sending the jet on the first date, Tyler?

And if it's worth it, I'm sending the jet. You feel me? Come on in. Yeah, yeah. Now I mean, I I mean, to piggyback to piggyback off Megan Grace. I mean, I'm first of all, I like to turn up so I gotta sip something, I gotta roll something up. We gotta have some fun. But um, you know, I'm probably not trying to look for the movie because I gotta I gotta connect with you on like, you know, just a just a verbal and like, you know, just like a a a situation up here. Like I can't I can't um I've been on a couple bad dates before and they all got a similar through line of just like us doing so much that I can't actually connect with you. Um, now I mean if we gonna if we gonna jump the boots ASAP, like I'm not against that. I'm just saying like um what do they call like a like a sapiosexual, I need to be I need to be stimulated like mentally too. So I need to talk a little bit. I need to feel what's going on. I need to I need to catch a vibe first.

I resonate with that, Tyler. Just to clarify, I'm not jumping everybody's boots. Okay.

I ain't say that. I mean,

No I know, I know that. I know that. If you want to jump the boots, jump the boots.

What do you mean? Why are we jumping them? I just want to know why are we jumping the boots. But I thought she said the boots all of it. Uh oh. What is it? It's called knocking boots. What's it called?

I thought it was called knocking boots, you know. But but it can be jumping sometimes. I mean, I'm an opportunist.

Here we go. And what would you say is the element that to you guys is the most realistic? Like eating your feelings, not getting over your ex, what is like something that you think like people when they watch the show will really relate to? Cuz like you can relate to pretty much every element of the show but what you guys think?

I think I think that you can be more than one thing at once, you know. I think each character, you know, right from all of us to Ian, is like, you know, you can be strong, you can be a boss but you also can be vulnerable and you can also can not have it all together and you can be, you know, an intellectual or whatever it is but then in the same breath, you know, you're just trying to figure it out and you have moments of just like being insecure and I think that a lot of times when when black characters are written, they're written in a way where it's like, this is that person and this is that person and this is that person. And we don't always peel back the layers to see like, no, this person is not monolithic, one. And this person is so complex and so interesting and so unique. And um, I think that that is something that everybody can relate to is the fact that, you know, we're all walking out this journey and we all are more than one thing. We all are complex individuals.

Totally.

You guys all second that?

Yeah. I I think it's so it's it's so much more, it's so much more layered than anything that I've ever seen before. Like everybody is so nuanced. I love what I love about Ian's character, right?

Is that it's not a typical hyper black masculine man, right? He's so sensitive and so smart and so cultured. And so and and I know men like that, right? But I don't get to see black men like that on screen a lot or even your Angie's who's this super superstar who is beautiful and loves herself and is going to be steadfast on what she want and not just like, "Oh, well, she she doesn't want to," you know, "I gave up on my dreams and now I'm just living with Quinn." It's like, "No, this is a pit stop and while I'm here, I'm going to wear your Chanel shoes." Period. And so I just feel like that there's just so many um I I think that there's so many opportunities for people, not only black people but people in general to see themselves in different aspects. And I think that's what makes it relatable is that it's not nobody goes through just like a parallel journey. Everybody you're like, "Wait, wait, she did what? Hold on, what?" So every character is going to surprise you and that's how it is in life cuz we just that's human. Like we don't know what people are going to do and we can't read people's minds and so that's a testament to how amazing the writing is.
