Dax Shepard On "Parenthood"

Hey everyone, it's Michelle Marie here with Dax Shepard who plays Crosby on the new show Parenthood.

And apparently he doesn't like to talk to anybody in green.

So we're going to actually a very rare medical condition.

If I see green, I I black out for three days.

And I have plans tomorrow, so I can't look down.

Okay.

So let's talk about this show Parenthood.

Obviously, it's based, you know, a little bit on the movie.

Tell me about the whole, you know, the whole concept of the show.

It's uh about a family, uh four brothers and sisters who all have, you know, children of their own.

I hope I'm not giving anything away.

Peter Krauser has a couple kids on the show.

And um, you like the movie follow them through all the normal growing pains of having kids and all the funny and traumatic stuff that happens.

Right.

And hopefully, it's uh amusing to watch other people go through your pain.

You play Crosby and you're kind of a slacker on the show.

Not much research.

It's been said that I'm a slacker, but I just want to for the record.

I have a job.

So I my definition of slacker usually means unemployed, but I am a sound engineer and that's uh pretty gainful employment.

A job is a job, you know, these days.

Yeah, exactly.

In this economy.

In this economy?

Yo, in this economy, for real.

How did you hone into your inner Crosby?

Well, I will say that I'm fortunate and that this is the character uh that is most like myself that I've ever played.

Yeah.

So, Are you saying you're a slacker?

No, well, that's the thing.

I'm not a slacker.

I think he's just unconventional and, you know, he's just not following the the traditional path through life.

But I don't think that makes him a slacker.

I think it makes him adventurous.

Let's talk about the chemistry with the cast.

You're working with Erica Christensen and Ron Howard.

I mean, it's amazing.

Ron and Ron and I've been butting heads since the beginning of the project.

Yes, so don't look for me in the next Angels and Demons film.

I probably will not be in it.

Um, but Jason Kadams who wrote the script and is the producer is amazing.

I'm a huge Friday night lights fan.

And then the guy who directed it, Tommy Schlammy, nine, one nine Emmys, no biggie, just nine.

Just one shy of ten.

Every single person involved is drastically more talented than I am.

So I feel like I'm in capable hands.

Could you tell the viewers like, why would they want to watch a show?

And what's so addicting about the show?

Um, I would want to watch the show because there's so many characters in it and every single one of them is very unique and very fun to watch.

And I think there's a very chaotic, frenetic kind of energy to it that's really fun.

And it seems like it's one of those shows that everybody can relate to.

Everybody.

Yes, with the exception of astronauts.

We have no astronaut plot lines.

Yeah.

If you're an astronaut, go to another network.

We don't need your business.

I just got rid of ten potential viewers.
