YH Buzz Meter: Tamarama

Hey guys, it's Joe Walderman here at Sundance with Jay Lion, Nicholas Potts of the band Tamarama. You probably know these guys from the city, but this is your first trip here to Sundance, right?

Yeah, it's our first time in uh Sundance. We played a lot in the states, so mainly in New York, but first time here and loving it. I just think there's so many cool people here and so many creative industries coming together. It's it's awesome. Just real fun.

And moving from Australia to New York City. What has that been like for you?

Obviously, we live by the beach, so it's a big shift being in there uh concrete jungle, but I think New York's just got such an amazing energy that you really just fit in there, especially for a young person, it's like being in the center of the world. As far as musically, it's it's really helped us. Um we've honed our sound, we've met a lot of people, we've played some great gigs. So it's been great in that regard.

Yeah, you roll it up, smoke it down, everybody's on the ground, music and then there's no there are romance and babe. Yeah, babe.

You guys have a unique sound. You describe it as like surf rock, kind of reggae.

Yeah, surf rock, reggae, folk, folk influences.

Who are some people that you're listening to? Like who do you have on your radar?

Black Keys, one I've been listening to. There's another band that not a lot of people know about from the UK called Alberta Cross. I've been listening to. Kings of Leon are a good listen, you know. I love the golden oldies, you know, I like the The Beetles and Deon and the Doors. I like all the classics, but for the new bands coming out, I definitely like Vampire Weekend and The Virgins. I'm gonna set the wheels for you. No the time spent away.

People are recognizing you from the city. What is that like for you?

It's pretty weird at first. I think just slowly starting to get used to it, but um, I'm really trying to get people away from that and like get get them down here to actually hear what we're doing. Enjoy the music and thank you for letting us do what we love.
