On Set With "Switched at Birth" Stars

What's up, guys? Leslie Robinson here for Young Hollywood. You know who this is?

Hey, Katie Leclaire here. Welcome to the set of Switched at Birth.

Wow. Let's talk about the finale here. You can't give too much away, but give me a little scoop.

All right. So, finale is obviously, you know, in true ABC Family and Switched at Birth form, very dramatic. Lots of things happening. So.

It's got to be drama.

Well, Zoe, uh Lea Thompson came uh yeah, she came and did a guest spot, which was a lot of fun. It was kind of weird though. I gotta say, you know, like I was such a big fan of Lea's, you know, growing up and I loved back to the future and all that and so when getting to work with her for the first time, I was just like, wow, this is really cool. And then, you know, like, I'm older than I look and so I kind of have a crush on Lea Thompson as I always had. And then you had to make out with her daughter. And I made out with her daughter and her daughter is like she has the same, you know, like facial expressions and mannerisms and like the way she talks and things and like, you know, it comes out every now and then. I'm like, this is just so weird. I'm also kind of thinking that Lea's right over my shoulder the whole time like, what are you doing to my daughter? You know, that kind of stuff. So, it was pretty awkward. Ooh, it is not a good finale for Bey Kennish, uh my character. It is not a good finale for her. She and Daphne got into a thing specifically because Daphne did something to Bey. And I think Bey's in the right. Um but I guess that'll be for the audience to decide, but we shot a major catfight in the kitchen. It was really awesome.

Okay, so this season of Switched at Birth has kind of been a bit of a roller coaster for Daphne. When the school board closes her school down, Carlton school for the Deaf gets shut down because of budget cuts, she says, I'm not doing that. And so she leads this revolution, this deaf revolution to save their school. And what happens? The school stays open. Now there is a compromise. The school is now half hearing and half deaf, but at least they still have a home.

Do you have a girlfriend off camera?

Yeah, um, we've been together for six years.

So, six? I it's about to I feel I feel like it's about to get serious. Like one of these days.

Oh, you're that guy. No.

Well, I know you have a man. You guys are still together. That's great. After three and a half years. I love that.

Mhm.

But now you guys are like almost married.

We're we're we're a pretty tight couple. It's pretty it's pretty great.

Is there a ring?

There's no, there's no ring. There's no ring. Uh What do we do about that?

If I'm being really honest, you're pulling this out of me right now, but we already have a ring. He just has to do it. He just has to do it.

Stop. Timeout. You There's a ring. There's a ring.

It's it's not in question. It is in tangible form. So, you know, just uh waiting around.

Any tattoos?

No, I want one. But the thing is, I'd have to have it somewhere where I can see it. But then I'd have to cover it up with makeup, and I don't want to be a pill in the makeup trailer. Not when, you know, other people not going to name names take like an hour to get their hair done, so.

Name names, it's okay.

Well. Sacred space here. Girls. Girls.

Yeah, Lucas kind of threw you and your girl co-stars under the bus before saying that you guys take up a bit of time in the makeup trailer.

Hey, now, you know, this doesn't come naturally. So we need professional assistance and they do a great job and Lucas is just perfect all around. So, not everyone can be Lucas Grabeel.

What do you watch besides Switched at Birth? Television?

Yeah. Um, well, I just watched the finale of 30 Rock last night. Mhm. I watch The Office. We started watching Homeland, but I haven't like fully gotten into it yet.

I know, that's what everyone's. Keep going. Fringe, which that was kind of my guilty pleasure. Parenthood, I think is one of the best shows on television right now.

It is ridiculous. Like

Do you cry?

It's let's it's a laugh cry. And that's why I think it's so good. Obviously Switched at Birth. Um.

What show?

Um, it's called Switched at Birth. It's about two girls who were switched at birth. Um, it's really, really good. Uh one's deaf. There's American Sign Language. There's this beautiful

What a concept.

hilarious uh intriguing and charming brunette girl there. I heard she's kinda sassy with sarcas. There's a sass there, but I find it endearing personally.

I mean, people must be loving you and what kind of support are you hearing from people out there?

We have great fans. We have great support and I'm very, very, very excited for our audience to see the silent episode. I'm so excited to hear the feedback from the from the silent episode. It's a huge risk that ABC Family's taking and saying that we're going to caption 40 minutes of television and you guys are going to like it.
