PRETTYMUCH Reveal How Ed Sheeran Wrote Summer On You & Touring With Khalid

About this video
Brandon, Edwin, Austin, Nick, and Zion of PRETTYMUCH return to the Young Hollywood Studio to scoop us on their hot summer jam "Summer On You", which was written by none other than Ed Sheeran, and how they were able to be involved in the making of the music video for the song! They also talk about touring with Khalid and getting to perform "OTW" with him live on stage -- which they kindly reenact for us!

What's going on guys? Hanging with me right now on the couch. I have PrettyMuch. Boys, welcome back.
Thank you for having us.
Glad to be back.
I'm actually going to go down the line and introduce everybody to the camera. So I have Zion, I have Austin, I have Edwin, I have Brandon, and I have Nick. Can I get a gold star for that?
Yes.
Because it's been a while, Yay, thanks guys.
We're so excited to have you guys here.
Yeah, we're excited to be back. It's nice. I like the couch. Last time we were on stools.
Last time we had a bunch of people in the room. We had some fans here too. It was a cool little setup.
The beans.
Yeah, we had your live fan Q and A.
Yeah, that was nuts, right? My name's Mia and, uh, what's your favorite scary movie? What's the one insidious? Yo, those insidious series are good. Sinister, that's right. The Conjuring. Or the shining. Saw. Saw all the saw movies.
And now you guys are back to talk to me about Summer On You. So good. That's like a little banger, like I imagine myself in a Jeep, top down, by the beach. Was that the goal?
Yeah, that's it basically. It was pretty good.
So tell me about the lyrics, what inspired it, how did it come about?
So this one was really special because a friendly guy named Ed Sheeran actually wrote this for us. So that was like a huge honor for us. Especially this guy because I think he loves Ed Sheeran the most out of all of us.
I'm second in line, I think.
Okay. Did you guys get to hang out with him though?
No.
I would've cried.
Not yet, one day. But we worked with uh, we worked with Steve Mac on the project and we actually did it in L. A. and London. And that was really cool.
What's your favorite Ed Sheeran song then? I have to ask.
Wow, yo.
Thinking Out Loud.
It's a big question for you especially.
Tenerife Sea. I don't know if y'all know that one.
Yeah, right? You're definitely a fan. I'll be honest, I didn't know that one. Is that like the real fans know that one?
Apparently, it was like a rumor that it was about Taylor Swift because it's T. S. So like I like listened to it. I listened to it and I was like, oh, maybe it could be about it. It's crazy. After that, I was just like stuck on the song. It's so good.
I love that. Anyone else?
I still love 18. Yo, that's a good one.
Yo, hold on. Y'all ever get, I don't know what song is first on your A list on your phone. When you plug your phone into your car. It's always 18 or Travis Scott.
Mine is Travis Scott.
And you guys also have a music video for this as well.
Yeah, it's out.
How does it feel?
It feels, it feels great. We had a lot of input in this video and like we like really shaped the video to kind of what we wanted it to be this time. And it was the first one, I feel like, out of all our videos, it's very cinematic. Like very, we wanted, we had like more dramatic lighting. We wanted it to be more storytelling instead of just hopping in front of a camera and just like decent random stuff. For each had different roles. So that's, I think that's what was really cool. A little bit of acting. So fun.
And speaking of fun, you guys just wrapped an amazing tour, right? With the great Khalid. Tell me about that guys. That's amazing.
He's, he's tight.
Yeah. Really tight.
Yeah, he's like so warming like even when we first met him like before going on tour, he was just very welcoming and he was easy to become friends with. So being on tour and having his friends there and our friends, it was just a really big, like happy family. We were just having a great time the entire time. It didn't feel like like a burden to have to go to different cities and do these things. It literally felt the entire time like I was just having fun with my friends.
Were there any like fun moments that you guys had with Khalid? Did he teach you anything?
He obviously had fun. I feel like his sound checks were one of my favorite things because like every time he would just like because he has a live band so like they could do anything, whereas like we don't have a band yet. So like then he'd be like, hey yo, uh, you know the chords to uh, this this song or this song or like a Beyoncé song or whatever. Yeah, they'll start playing and he'll start making up a drum loop to it and then he'll start singing it and his dancers are all just dancing to it.
Being able to go out the last day like in Raleigh, like the last day we were there, like with him on his last song that was so sick.
Yeah, we got to, he invited us, we were just sitting side stage just watching because it was like the last performance. And we've seen all his performances like from the beginning of the tour. So we kind of memorized the dances to his um last song on the way and then he was just like, come on, let's go. And he was just on stage, we're all side stage, we just ran out and just started doing the dance with him, it was cool.
Is it fair for me to put you guys on the spot? Can you do it in your seats right now? Maybe a little bit?
Oh, shit. I'll be on the way.
Yeah, that was awesome you guys. Fans out there, Summer On You, the single, the music video. Hang out with these boys. They're amazing. Thank you so much.
