Kevin O’Leary Talks Shark Tank Season 11 & His Top 3 Pitch Tips

Welcome back. I just want to say a few words. Feelings, nothing more than feelings. Just before we get started, I wanted to get that out there because I'm really trying to launch that Bublé career. It would be, it would be great. Where, so you're gonna interview me?

Absolutely, absolutely.

What are you doing here on the tank today?

Well, it's a very big career milestone for me. Um, I started on season seven. Yes. And now it is season 11. So you've seen the growth. You've seen what's happened here, right? So the show is on fire because companies have figured out that if they can get on Shark Tank, the platform is so big that it launches a huge acceleration of sales. So now look at the quality of the stuff we're getting, the size of the deals. Millions of dollars this year, incredible products, lots of venture capital firms and lots of fun.

What's been the most proud moment for you, just kind of being there from the beginning?

Well, you know what I've really have never thought of that this year is amazing. Last night I had dinner here in LA with my LA companies. We're like a family. We have all these, you know, different entrepreneurs, men and women that are on the journey together. It's some are struggling, some are doing really well. But the bond that we have together and the way we help each other, that's what I never saw coming. And so, you know, each year, I'm doing this every year now, I do it in Miami. I bring all my CEOs together and we take over a hotel for three days and we do business, we party, we, we break bread together. We drink my fantastical Leary wine.

I was going to ask that question.

Lots of it. Lots of the wine. And we learn and we plot the next year out. It's the journey, you know, entrepreneurs, it's not a destination. It's a journey. And some, every once in a while, lightning strikes and they set themselves free. It only takes one good idea to set yourself free. And that's what we talk about on Shark Tank. Just bring it here. I'll invest in it and I'll set you free.

So what are you looking for? I mean, it's like, do you have a difference of like what you want now versus what you don't? Is there any industries that you're really looking to get involved in?

I love it when they come out and in the first couple of minutes, I realize, why didn't I think of that? Why didn't I think of that? And when I have that moment, I realize, I gotta Smarter than, I gotta invest in it. And you know, there're there's only one Mr. Wonderful. That's my best calling card, you know?

I will agree to that. That's it.

So Mr. Wonderful can do great things for you. But mostly now, what I say to people, look, just talk to my 20, 30, 40 entrepreneurs that I've invested in and ask them what I've done with them over the last decade and all the journeys we've been on. It's been fantastic.

Is there anything, you know, now when you see entrepreneurs coming in the tank, what's the one biggest mistake that they still make?

Oh, this is You guys get really, I'm, I'm gonna. It's that is the greatest question ever. Number one, you've got to get your idea out in 90 seconds or less. Explain it to me so I understand it right away. Because if you're still rambling after five minutes, you're dead. Secondly, why are you the right person to execute on that idea? What do you know about this business? Is it in your family? Did you try it before and you've learned from your failure? That's number two. But number three, and I'm talking to you right now if you're thinking coming on Shark Tank. You better know your numbers. If you don't know your numbers, you deserve to burn in hell and I'll put you there myself. I guarantee that. You get those three rights. Wow. Crushed any?

Well, there was a couple of cockroaches and you know, I have to call it the way it is. I'm the only shark that tells the truth. Everybody else is Kumbaya, Kumbaya, and I hate that. I'm it's about money. It's, you know, you either make it or you lose it. You gotta talk the truth. If your idea has no merit, at least I'll tell you. And you can try something else. It's that easy.

How many, how many royalties have you requested?

I well, so far. I do royalties and you know, the sharks are learning from me, all the different structures I teach them. I should invoice these guys. They have no creativity. So most of the structures I create and then they get copied as the years go by. That's so true. But that is why I'm Mr. Wonderful. I bring so much to the.
