Lessons Arie Luyendyk Jr. Learned After Being The Bachelor

What's up, guys? Leslie Robbins here for Young Hollywood at the Grand Prix of Long Beach taking you one-on-one with The Bachelor's Ari.

Now, you're not a Bachelor anymore. Exactly. It's a good thing.

What have you learned since basically putting your life on national television, breaking up with someone, getting back together with someone, breaking hearts, falling in love twice, then actually choosing in the last second? What'd you learn?

A Bachelor no more. Yeah. I mean, I think I think I learned that you need to follow your heart no matter what. I mean, I I think I received a lot of criticism, but I'm happy, you know, we're having a great time and you know, we're uh we're planning our wedding, we're traveling around, we're So, I'm very happy. So, I'm glad I I'm glad it ended the way it did.

Would you have ever done The Bachelor back in your single days? I don't know, I I could have, I guess. I had some opportunities, but uh it didn't work out. But uh I don't know, it's it's an interesting show. I I enjoyed it. I followed it, but I wouldn't want to be Ari right now. So, um you know, I'm I'm good where I'm at. This question came up a while ago. Actually, the first time Ari went on uh The Bachelorette, I guess. I don't know. I don't watch this stuff. But it was brought up to me. I mean, it's hard to put myself in someone else's shoes when I've you know, I've not done it personally, but probably not. No. I I don't think I'd ever stand up for that show. That's not that's not me. I wouldn't be I wouldn't be doing that at all. Yeah. Yeah. No. I think it's hard to be. It's not for me. I've watched a couple of episodes throughout different years and it's uh I only found out this year you have to propose at the end of it, I believe. You have to. Which I just find bizarre. Can you take me a little bit into your decision making? What made you get down on one knee with Becca? You guys were obviously in love. You said, "I love you." And then say, "Oh, wait. No."

Yeah, I think I think as The Bachelor, there's a huge pressure to make a decision on that day. Um, I felt that pressure. Um, I needed more time, but, you know, obviously, the show runs and it has an end. And and on that day, I made that decision, but it was ultimately the wrong decision. So, I think I I proposed because I felt like that was the right thing to do as The Bachelor. Um, and I do want to get married and have kids. And with the information that I had at that moment, that was the decision I made.

What are your thoughts on Bachelor Ari and what went down on The Bachelor with him?

Well, he finally made up his mind, it looks like. She moved to Arizona. We drove we drove across country uh with her dog, Dallas. So.

I saw the pictures. Yeah, it's so cute.

She he's so cute. And uh her dog and my dog get along and we're having a great time in Arizona.

Talk about a road trip. What what do you got in the car? How many pit stops you're making?

We had a lot of fun. We stopped in a lot of different states. Uh we did a little sightseeing. We took our time and we stopped in Dallas, uh had breakfast with Sean. Uh Sean Lowe, who was The Bachelor previously.

Of course. So, as a fellow reality star, IndyCar driver, what advice would you pass on to Ari and Lauren? You're in a lovely relationship with your girlfriend Becky for a very long time. What advice would you give him?

I was lucky Becky and I had known each other for 12 years before we started dating, right? So, I would say, take some time away from the spotlight, away from all that world. Really get to know each other and and kind of just take it slow. I mean, I know they're already engaged, so it's like kind of counterintuitive, but I think the next step should be on the slower side and just really get to know one another.

Well, they only have 56 years to go.

Oh. There's times when I think my girlfriend hates me. But she still loves me, you know. And that's that's how it works. You know, there's you have little things that you go through um that make you stronger. But look, love at the end of the day wins out. It's tough, you know. Everyone lives their own lives. Uh but uh for us with Arie, that thing that really works is uh not be stubborn, just be open-minded and um learn to uh swallow your pride sometimes. My advice to Ari is always says yes. You're right there. And that works. That works. Compromise. Compromise. And I said usually arguments are because one's hungry or one's tired.

Yeah, exactly. Exactly. No never go to bed on an argument.

Well, you always got to stick by each other's side. And I think that they're going to see that more than any of us, right? Because obviously they've been been through a lot already and it's just started. But I think that they'll be fine. I mean, Ari, yeah, he's a he's a part of the family. We don't see him I don't at least see him that often. Uh but obviously he is a part of it. So, speeds it slow. Speeds it slow. I mean, we're racing drivers. We're good at the speed speed speed part. The going slow part is harder for us, so hopefully Lauren can kind of keep him reigned in.

Do you have any desire to get back full-time with the IndyCar family? Because I've spoken to a lot of the guys, they all love you. You're part of the family anyway, so do you want a full ride? What do you think?

Yeah. I mean, if there if the opportunity arose, I would take it, but it's not something that I'm currently pursuing. You know, it's not something that I'm spending a lot of my time trying to arrange. You know, I'm I'm happy in Arizona. We're doing real estate and racing every now and then in the Stadium Super Trucks. And um, you know, life is good right now. So.
