Welcome to Young Hollywood. Hey everyone, it's Michelle Marie here on the tennis courts at the Beverly Hills Country Club. We're about to chat with Venus Williams. She's teaching kids how to lead an active lifestyle through tennis and staying hydrated with Powerade Play.
Now, you are here to help support Powerade Play, a brand new drink for kids.
Yes, we're here today at a Powerade Play event. It's a brand new sports drink for kids called Powerade Play. And it's really the first sports drink for kids and it's geared towards them. It has less sugar. Still tastes really, really good. It tastes that kids will like and it has vitamins in it too like vitamin C. Uh-huh. So, it's just really important for me to know that kids are leading healthy lifestyles but also doing something that helps them to stay active.
I have to ask you about this over here. Your cartoon character right there. Do you think they did a good job with that?
I think the cartoon character looks better than me. I love it. Yeah, and that's just exactly how I do my my wrist.
That's what you do?
Exactly what I do.
You've had so much success over the years. How do you feel about the progress you've made as a player?
Uh obviously as a player, always learning, always understanding the game more. I love what I do. And just really getting ready for the US Open series this summer and obviously the US Open is a big moment for me. And uh of course being with the kids here today and teaching them tennis, actually teach me how to play better. It sounds strange but you learn the game more when you're actually having to think about how to teach someone else how to play.
Right. Yeah. So speaking of the US Open, you know, it is coming up. So what do you have to do to win this time?
Yeah, play better than everyone else. Every day that I play, it's it's real simple but um easier said than done but I'm going to focus on being the better player every single day.
Now, you know, recently, we know at Wimbledon you you actually were defeated at the quarterfinals. How do you, you know, take that loss into an opportunity for the next win?
Yeah, Wimbledon um usually I get to at least to the finals but this year not as close to the finals as I would have liked. So, um you know, in tennis it's great because there's a big tournament right around the corner every time. So I'm looking forward to the next one.
And you and your sister have great chemistry. I mean Serena and you both, you know, are on the court as a team, playing doubles, but then you have to transition and be competitors. How do you transition into that when you're on the court?
Well, we rely on each other so much as a doubles team and we have so much trust into each other that we step on the court and uh we become partners. Uh-huh. So, you know, at one point where across the net and the next we're in the same side. So it's a good feeling. Probably better to be on the same side than have to play each other because we're both so hard on each other when we play each other.
Right, right, you are. You have a book right out called Come to Win. So tell me more about the book and how it relates to others.
The book's called Come to Win and it's really about how you can use sports to be successful in life. The same things you learn, the attitudes of positivity, endurance, working hard, setting goals, what you learn from winning and losing and how you can apply that to be successful in life and how you can take the experiences from the contributors and what they say to be motivating to your life.
Right. A lot of people are speculating that you're coming to the end of your career. So how many more do you think you're going to compete in and are they right? Are you kind of leaning towards, you know, retiring soon?
Well, right now I'm at the top of the game. So right now I'm focusing on staying at the top and having even more achievements. So that's really my goal right now.
So how many more Grand Slam titles do you want if you were to say a few?
Uh, like I said, I'm not really at the end of my career. I'm at the top of my game right now.
You are. Yeah. Make it happen.
