Welcome to Younghollywood. com. Hey Young Hollywood, it's Michelle Marie. We are here at USC where the football team's getting ready for the Rose Bowl. We're going to catch up with coach Pete Carroll and starting quarterback Mark Sanchez.
You're getting these guys ready for the big day, so tell me what you're doing so far to prepare this year.
Right now we're getting fired up and tuned in to the way we practice. So Mark Sanchez this year is a starting quarterback following Bodhi Lineart, Carson Palmer and all these other successful USC quarterbacks who have carried on the tradition. He's been an extraordinary student, you know, prior to playing and even now and and uh he grows almost with every experience. He's going to have a great career. He's going to play on to the next league and all of that kind of stuff. and uh it's really fun to work with him because he's so tuned in. he applies himself so beautifully.
Do you ever get tired of playing the Rose Bowl, especially when this year your goal was to play in the national title?
Well, really our goal is to own the Rose Bowl and we've always set our sights on that and uh the BCS is a whole another thing, you know, when they choose to put you in another game then then you go do it. But uh this is our goal and then we'd like to go on and when we get the opportunity, but we never get tired of this experience.
You're playing Penn State. When you watch the videos, uh is there anything that you're afraid of, anything that worries you?
Yeah, they're really, really good. They're good in all phases. They can do everything. They're just one point away from being in the national championship game and and uh it shows. It's every challenge that that you'd want they have.
Joe Pa just signed a three-year contract to be on Penn State until he's 85 years old. Do you see yourself coaching at that age?
No, I'm just trying to make it to this game right now, you know. I don't know how he does it. He's just absolutely everybody's hero and it's great honor to have a chance to play against him.
You're practicing for the big day. The Rose Bowl is huge. What is it that you're doing to mentally prepare?
Oh, I'm watching plenty of film, you know, on Penn State. And uh, you know, trying to get uh to get ready for for everything they're going to throw at us. I think it's going to be a great match up for us. And um, you know, I never want to get caught, you know, unprepared out there. So, I'm doing a great job of uh understanding our game plan.
And so, how is coach Carol actually helping you with this game? You know, it's a classic big 10 pack 10 matchup, Rose Bowl, January 1st, but it's Coach Carroll, Joe Paterno, two story traditions, and he's uh talking to us about what Joe Paw means to football and and football in general, but let alone college football and and Penn State. So, it's going to be a classic match. It's so so fun to be a part of. I'm honored to be a part of it.
Well, you know, Joe Paw actually signed a three-year contract to stay on until he's 85 years old. So, do you think Carroll's going to last that long?
He might. He's uh he's a lifer, you know, he's one of those coaches that'll do it forever. So, uh he's so good at it. He's so active and he stays pretty healthy. So, I think it'll be just fine.
I hope the holidays are great for everybody and let's make it an awesome new year and with a big celebration at the Rose Bowl.
