Welcome to Younghollywood. com. I am here with Mark Sanchez, starting quarterback for USC.
So this is your first year as starting quarterback. Now, there's a long list of tradition, Matt Leinart, Booty. What are you thinking right now?
More than anything, I try to contact those guys, you know, and and they gave me their feedback on on how they think my season's gone and they, you know, have a lot of positive things to say, which is encouraging. And I'm just trying to prepare for this big game and and uh perform on a national stage at on a high level like I know how. And um, you know, that'll affect uh what happens after the bowl game and and what I plan on doing for next year.
USC is just traditionally always in the Rose Bowl. What is the greatest feeling about being part of this team?
You know, playing for the guys who have played here before, uh wearing the cardinal and gold, uh running out of the Coliseum tunnel, knowing that that guys like Marcus Allen and Carson Palmer, uh Troy Polamalu, Anthony Davis. I mean, the list goes on and on. It's it's uh, you know, so special to be a part of. And then you want to play to their level. You want to uh to honor them by playing well. So, one of these days when I get older, I'll really get a chance to look back and and know how fortunate I was.
Did you already have your day planned out, like from morning 'till you play the game? Do you know what you're going to be doing? Do you have your breakfast planned? Everything like that?
Most likely. You know, I'm a big into routines, you know, and and um I try to eat about the same thing every week and and just keep things the same and and get into a nice little groove.
Until the Rose Bowl, you have about a month off in playing an actual game. How do you keep the focus? Besides just practicing, how do you mentally focus?
It'd be easy to uh to forget about the last game we played, but there are still plenty of lessons to learn from that game. Coach Carroll is all about it. He will watch that film together and and get ready for this Rose Bowl.
Coach Carroll's known to be a huge prankster. What can we hear about him?
Coach had Will Farrell show up. He was uh Captain Compete. You know, we have these guys up in these um high-rise towers. And uh one of them had pretended to fall out of the tower. And we couldn't see exactly where he fell because we have fences around our practice, but it looked like he just fell in the street. Well, we didn't know there was a trampoline there to catch him. We found out after, but Will Ferrell comes in carrying this guy like he caught him out of the thing. So, and then another guy catches on fire and Will Ferrell's putting them out.
Did Will Ferrell have any words of wisdom?
He said some funny stuff to the team and then obviously he uh he was very proud to uh to be out here and then he said, you know, you don't know how much USC football means to him. He was a student here. So that means a lot, you know, to know somebody like him would take time out of his day to uh to come, give us a laugh and and uh have fun with us. So that was cool.
