Hey, what's up, guys? We're hanging out in the Young Hollywood studio with David Njoku. Or should I say Chief Njoku.
Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am.
You're a chief. Tell me about that. What does that mean? You're the chief.
My father's title is chief, and, uh, growing up, I just was so identical to him. He just passed it on to me. He started calling me Little Chief, and then it just always stuck, and here I am.
You are the chief. And you are the chief. Yeah. And you're what, one of nine siblings?
Yes.
Yeah. That's crazy. Where are you on the spectrum? Older, middle, youngest?
I'm the seventh. So there's two younger than me and there's six older than me.
Okay. Complete chaos growing up. Does anyone, do they have any of the athletic talent that you do or you the only one of the family with the athletic?
No, no, definitely not. I can't take all the credit. Evidence is the one younger than me. He's, uh, at Miami. Uh,
Where you went? Oh, that's fun.
Playing receiver, and then Charles just signed to go to UCLA out here.
Oh, my gosh. So coast to coast, yeah, we're excited. That's so exciting. This is gonna be a silly question, but were you, do you feel like you were born great, or did you have to really build up the talent and the skill to be good at football?
I want to say I was born great, but the first year I played football, I was just god awful, and I, uh, I I just told my my younger brothers this like I couldn't catch anything, and I just kept working, and here I am. So you just had it's
Just keep throwing it to me. Just I'll get it right.
Yeah. Just keep doing it, and if if I don't if I don't catch it, we're not gonna leave until I catch it, so.
And now you're really good at catching.
I'm all right. I mean, I don't want to too much myself up too much. I'm all right. Yeah. Gotta keep this head, you know,
Is it always turned on? Like if someone's like, "Here are the keys to your car." Are you like, do you go into the mode of like, you know, or is it just kind of like, I'll do it 10%,
yes. Actually, um, always competing, no matter what. Yeah, my, uh, my brothers and I had this little competition thing going where we, um, okay. So yesterday, um, he asked me for deodorant. Like, uh, Evidence, asking me for deodorant. So I threw him the deodorant, and he caught it with one hand. Yeah. And then he threw it back, and I caught it with one hand. And then, uh, my younger brother Charles walked into the room, and he saw us throwing it back and forth, and then he got in, and then it was just like a huge competition. It was it was disastrous.
This would be a great ad for deodorant. Just like all the men just,
We just lose started throwing it back and forth, and it was very competitive.
So who lost?
I I I won. I won. So I don't really I don't really care who lost. As long as I win is the
Good. It's all that matters. So what's it like during this time in your life right now with all of the trading going on? Like Don't you get close to some of these players? Like you become friends with them, and then they get traded? Doesn't that kinda suck? It's just like, okay, well,
It's like Yeah, um, my, uh, one of my close friends Jabrill Peppers just got traded yesterday.
So what's that like? You just sort of Yeah, I mean
Just like, congratulations. I'll text you. No, I mean, obviously, we have like a bigger bond than just that, you know. We, uh, Yeah. It it it it sucks, but, you know, it's it's business, and and we all understand that as such. So, uh, Yeah. I I'm happy for him. He's he's going back home, you know what I'm saying? We're we're both from Jersey. Uh, so we're we're we're excited for that. We're excited for that. He's he's a doer.
Okay, what about Odell Beckham being traded into
That's huge. That's that's also huge, you know what I'm saying, for us. We're really excited for this, you know. This is gonna be something special.
You're training today, aren't you?
I am.
So what's that involved?
Catching a bunch of balls from Baker and, uh, Juice Ju-Juice train. That they're both out here. They have a few receivers out here as well. So, uh, I'm gonna work out, uh, I think it's lower body today.
Lower body.
Lower body. Yeah, try to get these legs right.
Okay, so I worked out once this week, and I'm still sore, and it was just an hour-long Pilates class. How do you do it every day? I mean, aren't you sore, and you're like, I just kinda wanna have Chipotle and lie on the couch?
No, that's your career. You have to like, Mental toughness, you know. It's either you wanna be great or you wanna be average, and, uh, you gotta see it as such cuz this business does not last too long.
What are you eating? What are you what are you doing to eat a lot of chicken breast, broccoli?
Luckily, luckily, I'm, uh, I'm still young, so my metabolism is still going pretty fast, but you have to eat, you know, right, you know what I'm saying? You gotta take care of your body.
Yeah. Mhm. Okay, last question. What do you do for fun when you're not training, when you're not playing football? Do you have pets? Do you go out?
Yes, I have a pet. She's with my older brother right now because I need to get a better a better, uh, housing for her per se in Cleveland. Okay. But, uh, when I'm not playing football or training or anything, I I I enjoy playing PUBG with my brothers.
Really? You're a gamer?
Yes, I'm a I'm a big gamer.
Are you good at that game?
I like to think so.
Do you play Fortnite?
Uh-uh. That was a bad one.
Okay, what are these feelings about Fortnite and PUBG? Is it just the PUBG's the rip off of Fortnite, or Fortnite's a rip off of PUBG?
Personally speaking, I enjoy playing PUBG. Obviously, to each his own, you know what I'm saying? I have teammates on teammates that enjoy playing Fortnite. That's that's cool, whatever, but I can't build a house while trying to take someone's head off at the same time. Like it it doesn't correlate, you know what I'm saying? Like, so I enjoy PUBG, and that's that.
Very well put. It just does not correlate. Thank you so much. My pleasure. Really appreciate you coming in.
Thank you.
