Behind the Scenes At USC's Rose Bowl Practice

Guys have been practicing hard out there. How are you feeling about the game?

I feel really good. You know, we're confident. You know, we're just getting back out to practice, getting it going, starting to feel like, get the feel of practice back and just get out there and start playing.

Now, what's your secret to uh being ready for the game?

Just stay focused, you know, just keep doing what you do. You know, you've been playing this game for a while now, so just stay focused and just play your best.

Any personal rituals that you do before the game?

I read my Bible first, and then I uh listen to some music. Just get pumped. Just get ready. That's about it.

Where do you see yourself in the next year?

Uh, you know, hopefully, you know, with an NFL team, and you know, I don't know what city. Can't can't decide that. But then by the senior bowl and uh, you know, make a little push there and the combine as well and uh, try to help myself, you know, move up in the draft.

What advice do you give to the up andcomers that'll be following in your footsteps?

Work hard. You know, freshmen come in here and, you know, things have come so easy for them, you know, at the high school level. And they come in here and, you know, say they're not playing. I have to red shirt uh or do injury, whatever it is. And they tend to fade out. So, I remember coming in and uh, you know, look at the seniors and, you know, you know, I don't know if I'm ever going to get there.

What do you like best between coaching NFL versus college?

The similarity is that it's football. I mean, the game, and the tactics, and the the game itself on game day. Uh, you're coaching younger players and and uh little hungrier for the learn. They don't have that an opinion of themselves so much. And and uh, the young guys do everything that a coach can think of and that's all you ever want as a coach.

No, I saw you out here playing with all the little kids throwing a football. You think they're having fun?

That was cuz I was having fun with it. I'd play kids with anybody. Uh, this is Pete Carroll, USC. Uh, wishing everybody a happy holidays and and uh hopefully a great win in the Rose Bowl on January 1st.
