Young Hollywood

Hey, what's up, guys? We're hanging out in the Young Hollywood studio with Tony Jefferson.

Tony Jefferson

Yes, glad to be here. Thanks for havin'.

Young Hollywood

Now, are you the second? Your dad's the first, you're the second.

Tony Jefferson

I'm the second. My son's the third.

Young Hollywood

Okay. That's nice.

Tony Jefferson

We call him Trez. We're Spanish. He's half-Mexican so.

Young Hollywood

I love it. That's a good name. Yeah. Okay, I just want to get something out of the way. What are you eating in your profile picture?

Tony Jefferson

We're eating at uh Javier's, one of the bombest Mexican food spots in San Diego, and we do have the best Mexican food in the world. There's no comparison. I know LA, they like to say they have really good Mexican, but it's nothing in comparison to San Diego.

Young Hollywood

Really?

Tony Jefferson

Sorry. That's it.

Young Hollywood

I I believe you. I'm sure it's good. I'm sure it's good.

Tony Jefferson

I said that on Twitter and I got I got roasted so.

Young Hollywood

But now when you're training, is it just chicken breast, broccoli? Do you eat real boring, just the

Tony Jefferson

Yeah. Yes. Protein, salads. Oh. Bread. My desserts are one scoop of ice cream, that type of deal, but Yeah. It's part of the job.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. At least you still eat dessert.

Tony Jefferson

Yes. Yeah.

Young Hollywood

I heard about Mark Ingram joining the team. Have you started working out together yet?

Tony Jefferson

Uh, we will be working out. I actually from here, my flight's at 9:00 so, I I get there tomorrow, and he gets there on Thursday. Yeah. And uh, plan on working out that Friday, Saturday. Do some abs on Sunday and just get going.

Young Hollywood

Yeah. Yeah. I saw you were also trying to recruit, how do you say it, Levion Bell?

Tony Jefferson

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

You're trying to recruit him?

Tony Jefferson

Yeah, I failed.

Young Hollywood

On your Twitter.

Tony Jefferson

I I failed. I'm three for four now. Uh, in recruitment, but uh, you know, he he chose where he he wanted to go. Yeah. Much respect to him for that. But you know, I thought like we could have used him, you know, on on Madden, I still put him on the team though, so.

Young Hollywood

Oh, you do? Well, good. Well, then it worked out. It worked out. Jerry, retiring after 11 seasons, Jerry Rosburg. How do you feel about that?

Tony Jefferson

Oh, that one that one hit me hard. Um, he was one of the first coaches I really met when I first got to Baltimore. And um, you know, I used to be a really big special teams guy. Um, I would go to his meetings just because um, I mean, I had no obligation to go. I didn't really play special teams. But I'd go just to hear his message because he always had a good message.

Young Hollywood

Big loss. But what do you want to do this season differently that you didn't do last season?

Tony Jefferson

My goal is five plus turnovers. So, um, that's my goal. I I feel like I can that can be an easy achievement for me, you know, if I just have myself in the right position, prepare like I usually do. I I know the ball will come my way.

Young Hollywood

Now, we were told you were funny. I'm expecting some jokes from you now.

Tony Jefferson

No, I'm situationally funny. He likes to call and prank people. So put me The last time I did something like that was in high school. So, I did it to one of my buddies and I told him I was the because I had the San Diego area code. I told him I was the offensive coordinator for the San Diego State Aztecs, and that we were giving him a full ride and that that was the last time I did that cuz it kind of went too far.

Young Hollywood

Are you serious? That's amazing.

Tony Jefferson

Yeah. But never again with something like that. Never again. I can't do that. I can't go that far.

Young Hollywood

So, what do you like to do for fun then when you're not playing football?

Tony Jefferson

There's plenty of things. I like paintball.

Young Hollywood

Paintball? Oh, yeah.

Tony Jefferson

Big big-time paintballer. So.

Young Hollywood

Where do you play? Is there like a place that you play here?

Tony Jefferson

Yeah, Camp Pendleton, and it's well in San Diego. Camp Pendleton. Um, you also get an opportunity to play with a lot of the military guys that come down there, which is pretty cool. You get to

Young Hollywood

Well, how do how's that work? You probably lose every time, don't you?

Tony Jefferson

Yeah. And and and they and they put their paintballs in the freezer so.

Young Hollywood

Are you kidding me?

Tony Jefferson

Yeah, we're talking we were talking to one of them and they I guess they have frozen their paintballs. Makes it hurt more, I guess.

Young Hollywood

Well, yeah, cuz they don't It literally's like a pellet hitting you.

Tony Jefferson

Yeah. It was fun, though. You get to learn their tactics from them. You get to learn about what they were doing across overseas and stuff so. Yeah. It's a good experience.

Young Hollywood

So, what are you most looking forward to this season? What are your goals? What do you really want to do?

Tony Jefferson

Goals. I'm really aiming toward a Super Bowl. I mean, we got a sniff of the playoffs last year and we were so close. I felt like we could have made a run had we played just a little better, um, against the Los Angeles Chargers. We lost a bunch of guys, but we got some some guys back that can help replace um, what we lost and uh, I think with the momentum that we have from last year, going on that run that we did, I think we can carry that over into this year and do something special with it.

Young Hollywood

Yeah, what was that like? You know, knowing that you were there and you were so close to it. I mean, it's still got to be a great feeling either way. You know? I mean, just to play in it and to be a part of it.

Tony Jefferson

Yeah, it was it not being in the playoffs for, think yeah, that was two seasons in a row. And being in Arizona, we went to the playoffs two seasons in a row. You always just want to get back into the dance. This game is played a lot different once you're in the playoffs. Every second counts, every yard counts. There is no time for slack. So, it raises your competition level. Each week in practice, you're you're taking practice more serious just as serious as a game. Uh, it kind of is a game to you. So, that type of football is the type of football I feel like I was born to play and it's in situations and predicaments like that.

Young Hollywood

Well, this is your year.

Tony Jefferson

Yes, this is the year. It's going to be the year.

Young Hollywood

High fives. Thanks for coming in.

Tony Jefferson

Thank you for having me. For having me.

Young Hollywood

Tony the second, everybody.
