Jacob Latimore Teases Season 2 of The Chi & New Album

Young Hollywood, we are here with Jacob Lattimore. What's up? Welcome to South by Southwest. Is this your first time out here?

No, no, no. I've been out here a couple times, but you know, each time is a new experience. So.

Not the first rodeo.

Yeah, not the first rodeo. You know, I had a good time here with uh actually Tip brought us on stage, uh the show cast last year. Um we just we turned up with him.

Where was that at?

Uh I forgot what venue was it. It was Me Common and Jason. No, he had just he had brought us up and then we had just

What was What was that like just performing like with those guys?

It was crazy. You know, you know, Tip from Atlanta. I live in Atlanta. You know, I've known Tip for a while, so it was cool for him to show love to the show.

Talk a little bit about about the show, the new season. What's been like the biggest difference between season one to season two?

I think uh season two is obviously just a diving into the culture a whole lot more. You know, I think um each time, you know, we're finding new things to to to bring the light that's in the urban community. You know, we just we just want to speak the language of black people. You know what I mean? The Shaw is is you know, representing um the culture. You know, we just the the writing is more black, the the the show's more black. It's it's just it's it's for the people and um we're just giving them what they want.

What's been like your favorite scene to shoot, uh that really captures, you know, the the black community? Because I think it does the show does a really fantastic job of showing that.

Yeah, I think um I don't want to say I don't want to give too much away in the new season, but I think last season one of my favorite scenes was when we was all at the the block party and we hear a shootout, you know, from like a block away or something and then we all just keep partying because I think that's um you know, just uh a powerful experience that a lot of black people go through in the in the urban community. They just they hear gunshots that they're sort of just numb to it, you know? And then, you know, also they don't let nothing stop their their joy. Right. Okay. And um I think that was a a beautiful moment.

And then your I think it was episode six, I believe. Five? Yeah. Five, six. What what would you say we like explore and find out more about your character?

Um you you'll meet you'll you'll meet more of my kids. You'll meet uh you'll meet some other baby mamas.

Okay, some more baby mamas coming up.

Some more baby mamas. Uh so baby mama drama too? So baby mama all day. You know what I'm saying? The drama the drama is what make the show and the drama is what is is life. So um I'm really excited for for them to see that and just to, you know, I get to show my personality a lot too. I'm a I'm a really goofy person, you know, so over my career I've done a lot of deep projects, you know, um so I I'm excited to just smile more, giggle more, you know, and just have those moments.

And then you've been working on new music, right?

Absolutely. My new single um is out right now called, "Come Over Here." My album is uh Connection Part 2. Check out Connection Part 1. It's out right now.

What what do you think the the style is on this one compared to the first?

Um definitely the R&B flavors is is there. You know, R&B is the foundation of my sound, um what I grew up on, what I was inspired by. And then, you know, I feel like it's just a a good time for a great R&B music. So uh it's it's definitely R&B driven.

Do you ever get like, do you ever work the the showrunners like to put your music in the show?

Oh yeah, you're oh oh Now you're speaking my language. Hey, hey. Hey, you already know what's going on.

Absolutely. Absolutely.

So we we're in Austin, Texas. Talk to me about some of your favorite food spots you like to hit up.

Um honestly, I haven't that's the only thing I out of the couple times I've been here, I haven't been able to really experience the food like I want to.

You haven't had barbecue yet?

No, no, I'm gonna check out the barbecue today.

Stubb's. Yeah. Stubb's barbecue. It's phenomenal.

Oh bit. Oh bit. Oh. And I've been I've been I've been I've been working out too. So I just like, you know, I'm trying to stay fit. It's tough. You know what I'm saying? It's tough out here at Southwest. You know, I gotta I gotta live a little, so, you know, you know I'm gonna step out.
