We are at the I Heart Theater in Burbank. Just finished playing and everyone's just hanging out. We have a mini afterparty in the backstage right now.

Guest

I first started as a singer. I didn't have any formal training or anything and it only was like when after we've been signed and after we'd done our first, or we were in the middle of our first headlining run in 2010 or 2011. And we were doing a really, really grueling schedule. And at the time we were in a van. We were driving ourselves and lugging all the equipment in. It's when my voice kind of like shot out and I had to cancel a show or two and I went to a guy in LA and um Ron Anderson really helped me out. And I just had two sessions with him and that that like helped that. That was enough and since then that's like, you know, all I've really taken with me and it's really important.

Young Hollywood

Can you feel it too? Is this the world I've known?

Guest

He has me.

Francois

Hey, I'm Francois. I play drums in a band called Young the Giant.

Eric

My name's Eric.

Samir

Hey this is Samir from Young the Giant. And you're watching Young Hollywood backstage diaries.

Guest

When the beat of my drum meets the beat of your heart, you know I couldn't love any other, any other. This is where I come from. This is where I belong. When the beat of your drum, not any other.

Guest

Our set list tonight is a little bit different than our normal show. We usually do about an hour 45 and kind of split all the songs up, um and make it kind of a story from the old stuff and the new stuff. Um but you know, for tonight because of the broadcast, uh we'll we'll probably do some of the the songs that we've played on the radio, that have been put on the radio first about five. Do some Q&A's, do a break and then kind of you serve the rest of it and just make it our own.

Young Hollywood

Do you guys have any pre-show rituals that you guys do right before you go on stage?

Guest

So, before every show, we usually get in a huddle. Not usually, we always get in a huddle with whoever's around us, whether it be all the band members, our friends, our tour manager, the security guy, whatever. Uh and we do a huddle. We stick our feet in and we break and then we go play.

Guest

Any other, any other. This is where I come from. This is where I belong. When the beat of your drum, not any other.

Guest

Well, I think that before we put out our first record, we didn't really have a big crowd to uh, you know, play to and after touring on that first album and going in for the second album, we definitely did get a lot of inspiration from the fact that we are a touring band.

Young Hollywood

Any type of advice you'd give for an artist right now that's that's right now beginning and what would you what kind of advice would you give?

Guest

Um for any like upcoming artist, you know, just play as many shows as possible. Get as many opportunities and chances to get that strike that lucky strike, that strike of thunder. And just, you know, continue to like form and create your voice and as long as it's unique and something that you feel like is original, people are going to connect with it. And no matter what anyone else says, no matter what the, you know, the big record label people say is like if it's original people are going to connect.

Guest

The first time I ever heard any of our songs on the radio, I think it was like a local's only thing and it actually, this is like a constant problem I have is I could never seem to catch our songs on the radio. It's I'll get like a text or something and by the time I get there, it's it's pretty much done. So, I caught like the last half of a chorus and it's pretty exciting.

Young Hollywood

If you could bring anything on tour, what would you bring on tour with you? What's your must-have actually on tour?

Guest

On tour, I usually bring a bike. And I just disassemble it and put it in a bike case.

Young Hollywood

If you could compare Young the Giant to a a bag of potato chips, what kind of potato chip would you compare them to and why?

Guest

Doritos, Spicy Sweet Chili chips.

Guest

Oh, what was your suggestion? We're a bag of chips we'd be Cheetos, Fritos.

Guest

Oh, they're awesome, but they're kind of rare and they're.

Guest

If, uh, if if we had to be the band had to be a brand of potato chips, I think we'd be uh the Kettle chip Honey Dijon flavor.

Guest

We are Young the Giant. Thanks for watching. Young Hollywood backstage diaries.
