YH Hearts: Chris Cornell

Welcome to YoungHollywood. com. You're really a family man and when you hear like, you know, this legendary rock star, you don't really think of of them being family men. And and Mary I'm gonna tell me earlier about what the Lincoln Park concert? Was that it? Last last summer you brought your two beautiful children on stage during a performance. And I just thought it was heartwarming to see, you know, that you can be a rock star and then still just embrace your family. How has that changed you as a musician and, you know, how you approach your what you write about?

When I think about the songs that I'm most emotionally kind of affected by when I sing 'em live, it's the ones that are more recent. And some of it is that, having children, having being a person, having something and someone to care about besides myself. And that's the world where the sort of rock musician is supposed to be, of the old babies that don't really care about anything. Yeah, and we don't really have to. Yeah, we're not supposed to have responsibilities. That's not part of the deal. But that tour specifically was great for us because Chester, Bennington and his wife were were out with their children and um they made friends and got to hang out and it was very kind of child friendly. And like it was actually for kids. And I don't care what anybody says, but I think like children seeing a rock concert is healthier than children sitting at home and watching Barney. I think if you've ever seen it, it's disturbing.

One of the things that really impresses me about you is that you seem accessible to your fans. You blog on your official website and one of the most touching and moving things that I've I've listened to lately is the song that you did with one of your fans, Rory, who wrote, "I promise it's not goodbye." I mean, that song just brought me to tears. Can you tell us how does that happen that, you know, an icon, a celebrity, a major artist, and a fan connect on that level?

Well, it was mostly to do with him, with Rory, really, and the kind of person that he was. And and here's a guy that went through um And he's going through, you know, horrible experience, the loss of a of a young daughter, has cancer himself. And he sent me the poem without saying anything, just like, "Here's a poem that I wrote for my daughter, but it's really actually sort of written from the perspective of the daughter by him, but as if she's writing it. I just thought it was amazing. I had to change like two words to be able to sing it in the song and have it flow. That was it. And that that's never happened. If I were to sit down and write lyrics for my own song and I already know what the melody's going to be and what it's supposed to be about, I still have to go change tons of stuff when I go to sing it. With his, I didn't have to really I changed a couple of words and that was it and and sat down and, you know, sang it over the the music that I recorded and it just fit right in. That kind of that doesn't happen.

It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I mean, I cried when I heard it.
