Welcome to YoungHollywood. com Hey there, Young Hollywooders. I'm Tatiana Diana, we're hanging out at the Roxy with some very talented fellas. And word on the street is one of them plays a mean clav.
How sittin' on top of the hillside. There's a one way path that's takin' me home.
All right, so we're hanging out with the men of the hour. Want to introduce yourselves, fellas?
I'm Mike. Tony. Jason.
And together they are Crash Kings. So, you play one mean clavenet. And a lot of people don't know what that is, so take it away.
Uh, it's essentially a guitar controlled by a piano keyboard. So, it's a guitar strings and pickups just like your guitar but you control it with the keys.
So guys, tell me a little first of all, let me congratulate you. I'm being so rude. Number one on the alternative charts. Can we talk about it?
Let's talk about it. Yeah, it's a good stuff, you know. First single, first album, first number one, you know, first time for Motown to ever get a number one with a rock band.
So, tell me a little bit about how you guys met each other. You seem to have a really good chemistry. You wanna-
Well, Tony and I are brothers, so I don't remember meeting him, but he remembers meeting me. Uh, and then and then Tony and Jason met on a different tour opening or uh backing uh Sierra Swan. When they got back, we formed the band and and from the first rehearsal was uh as you said, it's good chemistry. We just, you know, first, the first time we played together was rock and roll. We we knew it was meant to be, kinda, you know.
But what would you guys classify yourself as?
Uh, it's just rock and roll. Without guitar. It's a really heavily piano driven, lots of distorted bass. Tony's got his uh secret weapon, the clavinet. You know, he distorts and his secret weapon. Yeah, it is. Nobody has that. No one has, he does.
I mean, the lead singer usually is like badass on his guitar. You come up with the keyboard.
I sure do.
So, tell me a little bit about the Mountain Man song. It's obviously heavily played on K-Rock as you guys know. I've heard it on K-Rock. Are you kidding me? Yeah, I listen to K-Rock all the time when I'm here like, I never hear this song. So you guys have never had that moment where you're driving the car and you're like, "Oh, I think I'm kind of cool. I'm in a band," and then you hear the song.
That actually has happened, it happened with us uh- We're just kidding them, cuz we never hear it. He's just lying, he's just full of lies. He hears the song all the time. The first time we heard it actually was with our parents. Which is really cool. It just it just happened to come on. We were in Boston and it was we were getting played on the station in Boston and uh and it came on and and our parents were just, you know, thrilled.
So, you never stop touring. You guys you guys toured with some pretty big names. Stone Temple Pilots, Jet. I'm sure there's some crazy tour stories.
Yeah. I had a I had a nice night on the bus with with Jet and we stayed up until about 10 in the morning partying and then played a show the next day. That was fun.
So I heard you guys practicing and I kind of heard some familiar tunes. Uh, are you guys going to be covering any Zeppelin or I I heard something. Are we giving it away?
We ain't going to give away our show yet. So we do like a little medley of of songs. And um classic classic 70s rock tunes kind of called called the evolution of guitar without guitar.
So what do you guys think makes you different than other bands out there right now?
I think the obvious thing is the no guitar, you know, and it's not it's not a piano rock band like uh you would think of like Keane or even Ben Folds. It's similar to Ben Folds but I think we're bringing more of a uh heavier rock vibe and something maybe that that hasn't been done without guitar before, you know.
All right, thank you guys.
Thanks Young Hollywood. Thanks for coming down and hanging out with us at the at the Roxy. Enjoy the show. We are Crash Kings.
