I think I feel emasculated. I should sit up.
Do you want to sit on my lap?
Yes.
That would make me feel much more like a man.
Hey everyone, Nikki Novak here for Young Hollywood in Los Angeles, outside of The Satellite. And who are we here to see?
The Jams.
Did you stutter? Say that again.
The Jams.
They didn't stutter. It's The Jams. Who am I to say, I want you back? Backstage at The Satellite with The Jams. How's it going, guys?
It's going pretty good.
Hi, Nikki.
Hi. Nice to see you.
It was like a delayed reaction. I don't want to cut her off.
It's a little slow.
You know, you're one of those nights where you're good friends, so you don't cut each other off. You're good to each other, right?
Exactly.
We're really good to each other.
He says that so sarcastically. Well, I know you guys have known each other for such a long time. Like, some of you are childhood friends, or it goes
Well, was he was a child when we met her?
Yeah, I've known these people since I was like 14.
Cats is a child, right?
I still consider myself much of a child.
Yeah.
So, I know you guys have been performing here for the last month.
Yes.
Yeah, this is the last night of the residency. It's been pretty amazing. It feels like home now. I don't want to go.
Is it going to be Is this a sad night for you guys, or is this like
This is absolutely not a sad night. This is We have so many girls playing. It's also a few days from my birthday.
So, the guys in the band, do they give you nice presents for your birthday generally?
I got I got I got you a nice present. One year, a enamored rose, a gilded rose.
Oh, it's true. He did get me a gilded rose.
I love you.
I'm sure I've gotten you something over the years. I've saved your life a couple times. Is that count?
Yeah, they've all pretty much saved my life a couple times, so.
Really? What was the most like scary, horrific, harrowing moment of of our the ten the tenure of our friendship?
I don't know how much I thought we were only doing 15 minutes. We could go longer if you like.
Greenwald, get over here.
I'll say hi, Greenwald.
Oh, yeah, Greenwald once carried me over his shoulders for three blocks in New York and then up a couple flights of stairs.
You're our hero.
You're our hero.
It's It's It's teen It's teen heartthrob Alex Greenwald.
Hi.
Uh, I don't know if I'm heartthrobbing looking right now, leaning across like this. Just coming off of soundcheck.
Something's throbbing.
I think I feel emasculated. I should sit up.
You want to sit on my lap?
Yes.
Okay.
That would make me feel much more like a man.
I know this is your last night here, and you guys are going on tour, and this is your debut album Suicide Pact. But you guys have been together for a while now as a band.
Well, it's a hard question to answer because we've been together for six years or one year, alternately. Because when we started the band, it was a side project, and we were all in other bands. And this is the first year that it's really been our main band, our our real life.
And I know I know you guys, I know it's the karaoke story. You guys have known each other forever, but there was a crazy karaoke night that lasted all night, and that's how the band got formed.
I'm always too I'm always too. You have to get it on the right track.
Okay, what am I missing?
It started with a karaoke night that we all just could not get onto the list in order to sing at at the karaoke night. So we said, well, let's just make up the karaoke night at our house, and let's all just go back there and screw everybody here.
Let's go down Let's go down the line though. What is each of your go-to karaoke song?
I'm going to need more than 15 minutes.
you can say the thing that we've Alex and I do a real mean rendition of California Dreamin' by The Mamas & The Papas.
Alex and I, I mean, karaoke used to be our thing. We used to go every night and just sing to each other alone. As as our way of of practicing. Like band rehearsal. That's how we learned how to sing.
So, do you guys, I know you guys are about to go on, do you guys have do you have band rituals? Like before you go on, do you do anything? Or is this it?
Besides sacrificing a goat, everything else is very private.
We do ritualistic shots of donkey adrenaline before the show.
It's tough to get.
It's a tough starting.
It's a tough starting. Really tough to get.
So I saw your video for "Never Enough" with Brie Larson, who we love. We'd had her in our studio. Feel like a first love. No, summer's in suburb drugs. It's like a little mini movie. Is there going to be a sequel? I'm dying for a sequel. You left me hanging.
Well, it's funny you say that. We just actually made a video for "Heartbeat" that is not a sequel, but it is in the same vein of we kind of just ended up deciding instead of making music videos, just to make little mini movies.
couldn't be touched.
So, I have some band questions for you guys, sort of like, how well you know each other and that kind of thing.
Shoot.
All right. Which one of you is notoriously the last person to arrive at soundcheck?
Is it limited to soundcheck?
No.
No, no, no, no, no. In general.
Notorious. That'd be Xander.
Alexander.
Which one of you is the takes the longest to get ready? Primpin' the most.
Is that a serious question? There's one girl.
You never know with the guys. You never know.
We don't We don't even get ready.
They yeah. They also don't get to There's any toilet paper attached to us. That's all we do. Just check for that.
I've never been ready. It's me. I'm still getting ready. Still not ready.
Yeah, I from 10 years of being in a girl band, I have the instinct before every show to be like, "So, what are you guys going to wear?" Just to a room of blank stares. Always.
It's a different world. This is why I'm joining the band, and I will collaborate with you. We can have our own collaboration with the clothes.
Thank you so much, everyone.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Have a good one. With us and have a great tour, and congrats on your last night here.
