Young Hollywood

Welcome to Younghollywood. com. Young Hollywood, I'm Tatiana Diana on the set of the Goo Goo Dolls' new music video "Home" off their ninth studio album. Let's go talk to the boys. So we're in the trailer with the Goo Goo Dolls. You guys are shooting your music video for "Home". What's the concept behind "Home"? What's the song about?

Goo Goo Dolls

Just being far away from home and feeling really alienated from uh, the the people that love you and care about you the most. And longing for that closeness and just doing a lot of searching around and coming to the conclusion that everything you need is really in your own backyard.

Young Hollywood

Do you guys feel like you've reinvented yourselves throughout the years?

Goo Goo Dolls

I got a new haircut. I love it. That's that's mostly what it's about.

Young Hollywood

What's your craziest tour story? I'm gonna get you for this one because you've been quiet the whole time. The craziest life story, just tour story in general.

Goo Goo Dolls

Don't about the time you drank that 12-pack watching a baseball game. That's wild. That's a pretty crazy one. That's happened an awful lot over the years. We've just been doing this so long. I guess you just kind of get used to touring as being your home away from home.

Young Hollywood

We've gone on tour so many times. There has to be some crazy groupie story or

Goo Goo Dolls

Why would you share that with anyone?

Young Hollywood

I we won't tell anybody and it'll just be between us. Just be us. The cameraguy.

Goo Goo Dolls

Yeah, and the cameraman. I guess you know, when you do this for a while, I think every time you do it, you learn to do it more and more in the same manner. You know, so for us, like, you know, we've pretty much gotten things together now. So, you know, things are pretty sane as we travel, which is good, you know. Our goal is to go out there and play great shows and and you know, do that night after night after night. So have we side-stepped that question?

Goo Goo Dolls

No.

Goo Goo Dolls

No, we just uh We just look really boring.

Young Hollywood

How is this album different from your past albums?

Goo Goo Dolls

It's pretty personal in in in the respect of the way it's put together. I think it's a step forward. It's an emotional record, but it's not very sentimental.

Young Hollywood

And you've been working together for such a long time. Exactly. So, in the music industry, you guys are legends. To be together and not been broken up or had any crazy drama is pretty amazing.

Goo Goo Dolls

There's crazy drama all the time.

Young Hollywood

Tell us. Tell us about the drama.

Goo Goo Dolls

Uh, you don't wanna know. He steal his hair gel.

Young Hollywood

Young Hollywood. Yeah. This is all you Young Hollywooders want to know about. You want that dirt? No, but I mean, I've been on a lot of music video shoots before and you have to do like a thousand takes. You guys just go in there. You're like one-takers, you know?

Goo Goo Dolls

We're lucky. We're lucky. I think, well, you know, that's that's that's uh one of the benefits of the the record industry sort of imploding is that they don't have money to make videos like that anymore. So you got to work quick. In and out. In and out. Get it in and out. Also, you know, it's you know, it's tough for, you know, if you haven't done this a lot of times, it's kind of tough to like walk up there and pretend you're doing what you do. You know, but we've done it a lot of times. So at this point, we just want to get it over with. Yeah. You know. That's mostly it. I don't want to struggle through it. I want to get home as soon as possible.

Young Hollywood

For people right now who are trying to do what you guys have done, what tips would you give them? Because you guys are actually a great success story. Not only do you make great music, but you've stayed together. You give back. You have a great name in the music industry. What would you say to somebody who's a hopeful like you were when you first started?

Goo Goo Dolls

Um, I think I would tell them not to worry so much about becoming a rockstar and getting famous and having the uh, the uh supermodel date you and uh, just sit down do your work, keep your head down, right. Right from your gut and uh, you know, if it's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. Don't try to force the solution, you know? Cuz at the end of the day, it's all about the music.

Young Hollywood

And I almost feel like right now, which is why you asked that question, I think, it's right now the music industry is kind of different and what's famous and what's not famous is so different from back then. Why do you think that's changed?

Goo Goo Dolls

Um, I think people have a lot more distractions now. I think um, the internet and DVDs and video games and and all those all those things uh, are sort of recently become competition for the music business. And and the music business has got to learn to adapt to that and become part of that whole thing. Otherwise, it will it will definitely perish.

Robbie

Hey folks, we're the Goo Goo Dolls. I'm Robbie.

Mike

I'm Mike.

John

And I'm John. Thanks for hanging out with us on our video set on Young Hollywood. I need you now. Lost without you. I'm holding on till I can find you to take me home.
