Kinsey here with Young Hollywood.

Young Hollywood

We're hanging out behind the scenes of Walmart Soundcheck with the man, the myth, the legend, Mr. David Cook.

Young Hollywood

How are you?

David Cook

It's quite an introduction.

David Cook

I didn't want to lose you, leave you with a broken heart.

David Cook

Nowhere ever we are, we're miles apart.

David Cook

I know that we tried.

David Cook

But this is the last goodbye.

David Cook

I didn't want to let you go.

David Cook

Nowhere ever we are, we're miles apart.

David Cook

I know that we tried.

David Cook

But this is the last goodbye.

David Cook

The Last Goodbye is lyrically about just saying goodbye to that relationship that's lingered a bit too long.

David Cook

And uh, I've been there multiple times in my life, so I, I can't imagine that nobody else knows what I'm talking about.

Young Hollywood

Am I wrong in interpreting it as you're just piecing out and this girl is hearing this song on the radio and she's like, oh, BT dubs, we're broken up now.

David Cook

Well, when you put it like that, it sounds a little harsh, but yeah.

David Cook

Yeah, I guess so.

David Cook

That's exactly what's going on.

Young Hollywood

This loud morning, is it safe to say that you're a fan of alarm clocks?

David Cook

Not at all.

David Cook

Um, this record is just kind of represents those moments in your life when you use sleep as a reprieve from life, you know what I mean?

David Cook

And uh, and I've always found this this romanticism in the idea that you can live an entire life in those seven, eight hours that you go to sleep.

David Cook

I really just wanted to tell this story of a relationship, you know, relationship that doesn't have a happy ending, where at some point you just everything goes wrong and you got to say goodbye.

David Cook

And hopefully, you know, everybody can find something for themselves in it.

Young Hollywood

When you're a tour, what is your vocal warm-up?

Young Hollywood

Do you yell?

David Cook

It's kind of this real quick, like 10-minute routine of I do that.

David Cook

Yeah.

David Cook

I'm not sure exactly what it does, but I've been told it does something.

David Cook

The singer Tony from the Crash Kings taught me this deal where you kinda shake yourself and hum, so like It works somehow.

David Cook

So I just do that.

Young Hollywood

Are there any epic pranks that have happened while you've been on tour?

David Cook

We're pretty good at at tour pranks.

David Cook

For a while, there was the whole uh we would tag each other.

Young Hollywood

Uh-huh.

David Cook

Where you hit each other in the junk.

David Cook

Um, but that stopped for a while 'cause it, I mean it hurts.

Young Hollywood

Yeah.

Young Hollywood

You have an amazing support group.

Young Hollywood

I was blown up on Twitter.

Young Hollywood

Do you have a favorite fan encounter or something that has stood out in your mind?

David Cook

I've had a lot of really great encounters with fans.

David Cook

I don't know that I could pick one.

David Cook

I do know um, you know, one of the most fulfilling things is uh just for the third year in a row, I was involved with uh the Race for Hope in DC.

David Cook

Um and uh we had this amazing turnout and and a a group of fans um kind of started a group, you know, a part of my team and and they show up and run and uh every year the group seems to get bigger, which is really um really heartwarming because it's something that's close to my heart.

David Cook

So the fact that they take it upon themselves to help support is uh is huge.

Young Hollywood

Who would you tour with if you could have your pick?

David Cook

Oh, wow.

David Cook

I don't think Springsteen has openers, but if he were looking for an opener, I'd throw my name in that hat.

David Cook

Bon Jovi would be a great one.

Young Hollywood

I want you to tour with Justin Timberlake.

David Cook

You want me to tour with Timberlake?

Young Hollywood

Yeah.

David Cook

I'd be down for that.

Young Hollywood

I hate to go back to the morning situation, but on Twitter, I did have some females ask how you prefer to be woken up in the morning.

Young Hollywood

Is it an alarm clock?

Young Hollywood

Is it a nice little poke on the shoulder?

David Cook

I prefer to not be woken up.

David Cook

I am uh I am definitely uh I'm a night owl before I'm an early riser.

David Cook

So, if I can sleep till noon, then I feel like I've done something right with my day.

Young Hollywood

You're a nooner.

Young Hollywood

I like it.

Young Hollywood

Huge fan.
