Hey, we're Brave Native. We're performing here tonight at Hemingway's on Hollywood Boulevard with The Ceremonies and The Filthy Souls.
Hi, we're The Filthy Souls and you're watching Young Hollywood backstage diaries.
So, you meet me there behind those cast walls. Just like before, we walk right through those empty halls. A ceremony is a communal gathering uh one that ranges the entire spectrum of the human of human emotions so it can represent anything from sadness of a funeral to the happiness of a wedding. So it's sort of an all-encompassing uh event, communal gathering where people can engage in emotions and listen to the music. The first time we heard Land of Gathering on the radio, we actually heard it indirectly. Uh we were at home and my dad heard it on the radio while he was driving to work. And he gave us a call and put it on speaker and held the phone up to his car stereo and let us listen to it through the phone. So that's how we heard it the first time.
Brave Native. She says what's gone and all is lost. I've got such a view. I've got such a view. Uh Brave Native is about uh realizing limitless potential. Uh we're about reverence, we're about uh partying, but partying with direction and with purpose.
My name is John Dority, aka John Doe, and I play the drums in Brave Native.
My name's Dante Bernetto. I'm the lead singer and guitarist of Brave Native. My Dear Friend Molly is a song that kinda kick-started the whole Brave Native movement in a sense. Uh it's a song that embodies uh a reverence in life and just going at things and uh kinda owning each moment. Not necessarily taking it for granted, but taking it, you know, for what it's worth and making the most of it. Um it's a kind of a upbeat, dancy song that people can get into and lyrically it's something you can kinda get behind and just say I'm here, I'm in the moment, I'm gonna be myself, be true, be brave and own it. That's My Dear Friend Molly. So let's write it. My dear friend Molly. Tonight, tonight. Say hi to Molly. You're my dear friend Molly. Tonight, tonight.
Uh came up with the name The Filthy Souls uh from the movie Home Alone. There is a little tape that he plays, Kevin McAlister during the movie and it says Angels with Filthy Souls. We got rid of the Angels with and we put The in front of it. The name The Filthy Souls just means dirty rock and roll to me personally. It's just a cool band name. The first time I heard our song Destroy You on the radio, um it was K-Rock and we got number one. And it felt unbelievable like to all of us. We couldn't believe it. I actually, as cheesy as it sounds, I shed a tear. You can't kiss me now. Turning heads, not come to destroy you. Open mouths and awaits you to destroy you. Turning heads, not come to destroy you. Just sets her eyes on you and she'll destroy you.
Um my favorite Ceremony song is Night Light because it reminds me of all my favorite memories of college.
Um walking into Hemingway's is kind of walking into a library. There's typewriters, there's there's books everywhere. It what we love about Hemingway's is that it's so intimate and the walls are just sort of strewn with old 40s and 50s typewriters and it's just kind of like this awesome knowledge temple.
Hi, my name's Amy. I'm a huge fan of Brave Native. My favorite song is My Dear Friend Molly. I've been following them since the beginning. I can't wait 'til they blow up and I know they're gonna play at Coachella 2015.
We love Hemingway's. We love playing here. Uh for one thing, the sound is amazing. The stage set up is amazing. I only love bars that have an awesome uh decor and an awesome vibe and Hemingway's is exactly that. I feel good. These guys were the best. The Filthy Souls. Check them out. Dirty. Filthy. Nasty.
Yeah, so you guys are pretty amazing and uh very happy.
My biggest musical inspirations would be David Bowie and Ian Curtis. Personally, um Jeff Buckley is my main inspiration, but we're all inspired by a lot of 80s and 50s groups. I would raid uh Kurt Cobain's closet uh because he sort of just has everything from dresses to uh random I don't know, like Baby Jane Crocket hats. Just random cool vintage stuff.
Musical inspirations for me are wide-range, you know, listen to all kinds of stuff from Tupac to Frank Sinatra, you put anything in between there and those are influences in music and uh that's the beauty of music. A little bit of everything's good. I would raid Jeff Buckley's closet just for his Telecaster. Sweet.
I grew up on the classics by The Rolling Stones, Beatles, the usual.
