Hey guys, Carly here for Young Hollywood. I'm here with Mary Lambert who has a new album Heart on My Sleeve coming out and we're going to chat all about it.

I can't change. Even if I try. Even if I wanted to.

Your album is called Heart on My Sleeve. Tell me about the album.

I'm so proud of the record. Like, this is my dream album that I always wanted to make. And um, you know, sonically, I was really inspired by Katy Perry's Teenage Dream. I wanted to make a pop album, but I wanted to do it, you know, my way. It pushed me in a lot of, you know, amazing directions and I learned a lot and and I had five goals when I made when I made the album. I wanted to have fun. And I wanted to make sure I was being completely and authentically myself. I wanted to have music that's on the radio because it's so fun to hear yourself on the radio.

I saw your video on Instagram of you like freaking out about it.

It's so much fun. I cannot tell you. It's just like, oh my gosh. And then, um, and then the other one is that I wanted to make sure that the music I was writing has a a positive intention that I'm being like really conscious about what I'm putting out in the world. And um, and that uh it affects people positively. And then the um fifth one is that I would like to buy my mom a beach house. That's sort of the plan.

I bet your mom is a big fan of that goal, too. She's like, I'll do whatever you need.

I could be a rose. I could belong. I could be a rose. Will you sleep?

You kind of rose to fame from the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis collaboration. And I feel like you were really known for the music before anything else. So do you feel like that's an advantage for you, just kind of being known for music before like image or anything else?

Totally. I think it's kind of nice, too, cuz I still get to enjoy anonymity in some ways. And then when people find out that I'm like, oh my God, you're the girl from Same Love. And then it's exciting cuz then I can kind of like do whatever I want to do. Like not wear makeup and like

It's like you have a secret.

I know. Like drop a piece of bagel in my bra and I can just eat it. Like nobody cares.

What kind of emotions do you want people to feel when they listen to Heart on My Sleeve?

Um, vulnerability. I always want to I try to invite people to feel vulnerable and um and that's sort of what I what I do. I live really vulnerably and I don't know if I want them to feel something in particular. I just want them to feel. Sometimes things uh live inside of you that you have to get out. And and I feel so much all the time that I have to get some of these things out. And and that helps me be like live freely and openly. And I think maybe that is it sort of an invitation for other people as well. Will you sleep?

Does the social media side of like your job as an artist, does it come naturally to you? Cuz you're good at it. Or is it like, do you have to make yourself do it? Like I'm I I feel

I really love doing social media. It's always been a part of me cuz I mean, I'm an oversharer. That's like I think that's kind of my profession at this point is being an oversharer. So social media for me, I have to be careful that I don't share too much. So that's something that I'm learning.

You have to hold it. Hold it back.

Yeah, totally. I'll like tweet something. I'm like, that's inappropriate. Or like, I shouldn't tell them that I'm eating dinner here.

I tweeted out asking if any of your fans have questions for you and Vary Okai, I think that's how you say it. He wants to know if you have a quote that you live by.

Um, I have a couple. Oh, that's so that's so cool. That's a good one. He was like, that's the best one. Yeah. Um, I have two. I have um, uh, the answer to how is yes. And so like cuz I never knew I was like, I don't know how I'm going to pay for college, but I'm like, yes. And then four years ago it was like, I'm going to be performing at the Grammys. I don't know how, but yes. You know, these these things it's sort of determination. Um, and the other one I like to live by is um, uh, I don't know who said it. I'm going to feel like a jerk. But it was uh, be careful of your thoughts for your thoughts become your words, become your words become your actions. Be careful of your actions because it determines your character. So I think like being really conscious of even what you're thinking down to like the way that you interact with people and the energy that you're putting out there. It's like, can have this, you know, a ripple effect. It's important to be conscious of that, I think. Will you sleep?
