Welcome to Young Hollywood.com. What's up Young Hollywood? I'm Tatiana Diana. We're hanging out with Matteise before her big performance tonight at Cherry Pop. How you doing?
Good, how you doing?
Good. So, how did you come up with Matteise?
Well, he's one of my favorite painters. And um we were just my sister and I were watching him on TV and of course I couldn't really be Britney, or Brit, because that wouldn't be very original. I just liked his message also that he, despite the fact that his art wasn't selling at the time and another style of art was more successful, he never conformed or compromised himself at all and just stuck to what he felt was right. And eventually obviously succeeded and and I felt like I've had that kind of struggle in my career also just with people saying oh well, you know, you should be the next Britney Spears or the next Christina Aguilera. And I've always said like I'm just going to be me and if it works, it works, but at least I've been true to myself. Kind of all worked.
So, tell us a little bit about this uh single, Better Than Her.
Yes. Um, well, it is kind of a girl's anthem type dance pop song. It's on iTunes now and I'm just been out here uh performing and promoting it so.
When can we expect to see this album?
Well, I'm still finishing it. Um I think I have like maybe two or three more songs. So, um we're hoping for the end of summer um fall.
Who's inspired you?
Um probably the biggest people I would say I always listen to like the big voices like Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, um of course Michael Jackson, Prince. Those are probably the biggest ones for me.
So you mentioned Matteise is kind of like your alter ego. Who what is she like?
Um, well, I'm actually pretty quiet day-to-day. Um most of the time so this is definitely the more outgoing, kind of fun, bubbly side and more of the creative side of me I guess is Matteise.
So if you were to describe your sound to someone who's never heard you before, how would you describe it?
Um it's definitely straight down the middle pop, but it has elements of I would say rock, dance, and R and B. Like I've I've done more of my ballads I did with Neo, so it's a definitely melodic kind of R and B. Um but then um yeah it just it has a fusion of things. I always say like we're part of the iPod generation so I've been influenced by lots of things and I think people listen to lots of genres now. So there's definitely a bit of everything in there.
So tell us about the whole recording process. Do you just how do you get inspired? How do you write your do you write your own songs?
For me, the process is always I start with the music um whether it be just a guitar or just a piano or a track um and then the melody um and whatever inspires me I start with the melody and then I put the words to the melody. My priority is just having good songs. So if I've written it, that's great. If not, that's fine too as long as it's a good song. I'm I'm just about, you know, having songs that entertain people and that are fun and people relate to so.
So for all those Matteise fans out there, where can we find you on Twitter?
Um my Twitter is @MatteiseMusic. So that's M A T I S S E Music. And same with my Facebook and MySpace.
You're definitely gonna have a busy summer so we have to have some way to keep up with you. So Yeah, I'll be. Follow her on Twitter. Please. Please do. Thank you so much.
Hey, it's Matteise. Thanks for hanging out with me tonight Young Hollywood. Big kiss.
