Justin Timberlake's Discovery: Esmée Denters

Welcome to Young Hollywood. com. I'm Oliver Chavini here at the SLS Vocal Studios with the gorgeous Esme Densters. And you come here for your vocal technique. How is it? Esmée Denters: Yeah, it's been great. You know, before I started all of this, I never had any kind of vocal training, so it's really good to come to Dave and do these warm-ups and, you know, keep this voice happy.

Perfect it, because it is a muscle. Now, uh your story is insane as far as music stories go. You're on YouTube, you're on a webcam, and then cut to being signed by Justin Timberlake and you're out on tour in Europe. How was that? Esmée Denters: You know, it's been crazy. Uh I never thought that by posting videos on YouTube I'd be able to do all of this and have all these fans to thank.

What's it like working with Justin? Esmée Denters: It's just been wonderful to be able to work with such an icon. He's been so involved with the record. Um, I've been writing with him, he's been producing. Great little duo going there.

Esme and Justin Timberlake, massive, huge. Now you've just been on tour with Enrique Iglesias, how was that? Esmée Denters: It has been amazing, you know, he's such a great guy and I've had so much fun. It was the first time for me to be able to sing all the songs that are going to be on my album.

Who you were who were your inspirations growing up? Esmée Denters: From a young age, I love Janet Jackson, Spice Girls, and um Destiny's Child, you know. Mostly very powerful women actually.

Maria Digby, she comes here for vocal lessons along with Esme who we just saw, and tell us a bit about the studio.

I've been taking lessons here for gosh, a long time, maybe four, five years now. And so it feels very much like home and it's incredible how much my vocals have changed over the years with the lessons.

If you haven't recognized this girl yet, you probably don't even own a laptop or a computer because she's everywhere on the internet. Tell us how the music career started for you. Esmée Denters: Let's see about two years ago. I started posting homemade videos of myself seeing cover songs and original songs. And uh they somehow took off. It was Beyonce's Umbrella. That that was the cover video that seemed to explode.

Now, the studio itself, obviously, you know, we know Seth Riggs is a complete legend who's taught Ray Charles, Michael Jackson. Um you were involved in the summer program. Esmée Denters: Yeah, yeah, I was very honored. They have something called the green room and the lecture series. And um I just basically went and played a couple songs and told the students about my experience and um you know how I self-promoted myself and what it means to get signed and all that stuff. So, uh it's just it's an incredible program for any aspiring musician.

If you don't know who this guy is, his name is Seth Riggs. And probably every musical genius in the world has been taught by this guy. And some of the people that you've taught Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole, Anita Baker, um Madonna. How long have you been doing this for?

52 years.

Fairly new to the business. Um, so people fly everywhere for this summer camp. Now you have like, you know, Stevie Wonder, people like that. They all come through and give lectures and so it's an amazing place for an aspiring musician if you really want to learn what you should be doing in this industry.

We have good vocalism, acting, we have dance, we have songwriting, musicianship, the business of music, and we have open mics. So we make the kids not only do it in their classes, but they also have to get up and prove it. Esmée Denters: Hey, I'm Esme Densters, and I'm so happy to be here.
