Welcome to Young Hollywood. com. Hey, Young Hollywood, it's Michelle Marie coming to you from Child Studios. I'm here with the one and only JR Rotem, super producer. It's such a pleasure to have you. How are you feeling today?

Thank you. Thank you for having me. I appreciate it.

Congratulations, I have to say, first off, for the success that you've had in, you know, a short amount of time. You just blew up so quickly. How do you feel about how quickly it happened with you?

You know, it started out with really just a dream. Um, switching from playing jazz piano to starting to make beats. Um, then um, moving to LA to pursue that dream. Originally at that time, you know, my biggest dream was just to play keyboards for Dr. Dre. You know, I heard about Scott Storch, you know, that was kind of like my inspiration like, whoa, and you know, a white Jewish keyboard player can like play hip hop and be in that world. So for me, that was kind of my dream. But ultimately, you know, what happened for me was was even bigger than I would have, you know, would have thought, you know, just basically becoming my own producer and starting my own label and things like that. So I feel very, very blessed.

The cool thing that I noticed about you is that your expertise spans genres. Like you can work with someone like Rick Ross, Dr. Dre to like Natasha Bedingfield, Jesse McCartney, and like Britney Spears.

Versatility for me, um, I think is probably one of my fortes. Everyone's got different strengths and weaknesses. I started off with the roots of music, learning classical and jazz. I think that that makes it so that when I get in a room with a game or a Rick Ross or something like that, I kind of know, you know, what zone I should get into and I kind of just play off where they want to go. Same thing if I get in with Natasha Bedingfield or, you know, Britney Spears or Rihanna, um, it's it's kind of like I feel like I understand the music even from a fundamental like what kind of chords, what kind of moods I should create, um, you know, what kind of melodies, and then what kind of sounds I I kind of put that in there. So it makes me be able to be sort of a chameleon.

You must really have a knack for being able to deal with different personalities because you have to have chemistry, you you must have to have that in the studio. So it can't be created, right? How do you really connect with an artist?

It's my job to really, really understand where an artist is coming from and try to and try to meet them in the middle and try to understand where they're coming from. That's going to happen naturally better with some people than it is others. And ultimately, the people that we sign to our label like, you know, Sean Kingston and Jason Derulo and Ayaz and Auburn. Um, we wouldn't sign them if I didn't naturally have that chemistry. Now, we get in with other people. Um, some we have it more with people, some we have it less. And then sometimes it's just kind of surprising. Like it's it's surprising to me, you know, that for whatever reason, you know, with when I when I hear like when Rick Ross does vocals to my tracks for some reason it just works. It's not because we both grew up in Miami in similar conditions. It's not because of, you know, anything like that. It just somehow, um, it's a magic that happened.

It really is crazy, something that you I can't predict. Like I couldn't predict who I have musical chemistry with. Right. Sometimes it's, you know, who you'd least expect it. If you were to describe your process, your the JR Rotem process, what would you say?

There's sometimes where, you know, if I know that I'm getting in with a particular artist, I'll kind of go through some time by myself making tracks or with Tommy, with my brother, making tracks that hopefully will inspire a good song. Other times an artist might want to get in from scratch. They might want to just sing stuff to me while I'm at the piano and I play chords and build the beat up with them. Um, other times it may just be me with a track and then I get a writer in, we'll start writing a song, so it can really vary. I ultimately try to tailor it to the artist that I'm with and what that artist wants to do at that particular time.

Are there any artists right now that you have on the horizon that you would love to work with that you haven't worked with yet?

You know, the big ones that come to mind, I I haven't ever heard Eminem, you know, spit a verse to one of my tracks. Now, obviously, you know, I've sent beats, you know, our paths have crossed that way, but it's not like a song has been released, you know, an M&M song produced by JR. So I would say that, you know, that's that's definitely a dream. Um, you know, Jay-Z as well. Um, but for the most part, I think my focus ultimately it is more fulfilling for me to find, you know, a brand brand new artist and really, really like, you know, see that see them, you know, break from beginning to end.
