First time I ever heard my song on the radio, I was with my band in St. Louis. We were driving to another gig. It came on the radio. We flipped out. And we were in a part of town, for some reason, where there no one was. We started like rolling down the windows and screaming, and no one was there to witness it. I remember that. I'd be like, "Somebody, someone hear this! This is, I swear to God, this is me!" And there was no one around. It was really funny. We love it. It was really exciting. When you hear yourself on the radio, it's pretty cool. I'm Andy Grammer, and this is my backstage diary at The Grove. What's up? I'm Andy Grammer, this is the stage. We're going to be rocking tonight.
It's going to be, uh, it's going to be amazing. Especially for me, because I'm from LA. All my friends and, uh, and a lot of cool fans are coming out tonight. It's going to be, it should be a really good one. Especially, it's kind of like a mall show. Mall shows, for some reason, this is like a normal show, uh, scream level. For some reason, the mall shows always go up a little bit. I don't know what it is. It's just like mall shows are a little bit screamier. So, I'm excited. All right, there are people much better than I am at beatboxing, but the basic idea of beatboxing is doing the drums with your mouth, right?
So, you want a kick drum, you want a hi-hat, and a snare, like, Or there's lots of different snares, like, Or where you suck in, like, So, Like that, kind of. Yeah. You know, we threw a couple dance moves in on this set, on a lot of the new music. So, we actually had a choreographer, crazy. For for me, that's insane. But, uh, like, very classic old-school classic moves. Uh, I would say honestly, just a standard two-step gets everybody moving. Just like a solid two-step will get the job done. I don't know if there's a, I don't know if I'm trying to push a message on someone. I think my goal is to try to write songs that are grounded in something.
Like the example that I use is like Newton had an apple fall on his head and he wrote out what gravity was. And everybody's like, "Totally! That happens to me all the time! Oh my god, I'm living with gravity like all the time!" And I think that a great song does that. So, I try to do that any time I I write a song, it's like, "All right, what is it? What is this mirroring back about life in some way that people can connect to?" Young Hollywood. Andy Grammer here. Thank you so much for coming on my backstage diary at The Grove.
