Welcome to Young Hollywood. com. What's up, Young Hollywood? I'm Tatiana Diana. We're on the set of Hwood's new music video, Could It Be You? Let's go inside and check it out.
I like a. I want to know everything. Tell us how we're here right now making music video. How did this all happen?
Man, that's what I've been trying to figure out all day. Like I've been just like this is like a dream. But it started in Denver, Colorado. With me on MySpace.
I see the Rockies hat. Colorado. Representing.
Representing everywhere I go, man. But it started out with me on MySpace every day for like 12 hours. And finally I got the attention of some producers named MJP. They used to work with Jordan Taylor. And uh, they asked me to come out here and do a demo. So I came out here in about August of '09. Started my demo with them. And Could It Be You was one of the songs on the demo and Rodney Jerkins heard it and he was like, "Yo, I like it. I want to sign you." And I was like, "What?"
You wanna give us a little set tour? Show us around.
Sure. Okay, I can take the mic. You can be the H-Wood. Oh, I can take the mic. Okay. They gave me the you never give me the mic. She might not get it back. This is my dressing room right here. I got all kinds of stuff in the suitcase, all kind of stuff back there, the shoes, the hats. The bathroom around the corner. You know what I'm saying? That's my homegirl right there. Brianna Cole. She's on the 5280 mixtape. We're having a great time. We're having a great time. A lot of fun tonight, so we're gonna have a good time. Thank you. Exactly. We're gonna keep it rolling. Office. They're working on some stuff in there, the office. My boy Rodney Jerkins in the building.
Rodney Jerkins in the building. Young Hollywood. What's up, buddy? What's up? How are you doing?
Chilling with my home with my homey Hwood, you know, at his first shoot right here. This is my first one. All the way from Colorado. You see I got the hat on. All the way from young young Colorado to Young Hollywood. Yes, exactly. Hwood. Young Hwood.
So how does it feel to work with such a newcomer to the game?
I think every artist is a new artist. That's how I see it. Like I think people get caught up in the thing of, oh, um, so and so Brandy, so so no Brandy was a new actress one time and she became that. So to me, every artist was once a new artist and then they became something and that and and so for me it's about, for me for the next, you know, portion of my career, I like to dedicate a lot of my time to to finding new talent and helping them become the next. And so Hwood I feel is that next.
So how does somebody go about getting discovered by Rodney? I mean, there's there's plenty of ways, you know, it's funny. We're listening because everybody out there wants to be discovered by
Yeah, I mean it it you know, the the viral movement is what's really what's happening, you know, the Twitter, the only one Darkchild Twitter, you know, you'd be a lot of people'd be surprised, but I I click a lot of the links to to listen to new talent. And I have a team at Team Darkchild, which is which is a part of my promotional team that also looks for new talent via Twitter, via Facebook, MySpace, all of that. The days where you send a demo tape in is kind of dead now. It's like it's all about the internet. Pretty much, it goes all the way back there. But I'm getting ready to go to lunch 'cause I'm hungry. Thank you, Young Hollywood. I appreciate it. I holler at y'all.
