Welcome to YoungHollywood. com. What's up guys? It's Michelle Marie coming to you from Harry-O's and we are here with Nas, the one and only.
I come here to Harry-O's. This is my club, you know, these are friends of mine and it's always a good time even with the just hanging with them. Yeah, just be You know, so it's it's like uh more it's not work. It's like it's it's it's a hangout. It's fun. It's fun. Yeah. So you know, it's always good.
Well, I know you're working on some stuff right now with Damian Marley. Yes. Let's talk about that. Distant Cousins.
Yeah, yeah, Distant Relatives. real real real proud about it, real happy about it. And you know, uh Damian Marley's an incredible producer, incredible um, you know, I was taken back even just working with him how how uh serious he is with his music and lyrically and what he's talking about. I'm just like, wow. I'm blown away by him. Yeah.
Oh it's crazy, right? Well, you're a lyrical genius, I have to say. I mean, so many people that I interview, the Game, everyone that I talk to, when I ask them who they're influenced by and they say you. Seriously, like so many people. How do you feel about that? I'm sure people come up to you all the time and say that too.
Oh man, it's love, man. You know, you you you never it never cease to amaze me, you know. I'm just happy that I'm here and I'm happy that all the other dudes is out there. I'm inspired by all the guys that you're probably talking about. I'm inspired by them too. That's how it works out here, right? Yeah.
Well, you're a legend and you've been in the game for so many years. How do you feel about the way that hip hop has evolved?
I mean, it's all good. There's all kind of things going on now. It's always shifting, you know, one area the world will dominate rap music and then the Midwest and then the South and then the West. It just rotates and then everybody gets their say. believe in the game needs them. Plus the people need someone to believe in. So in God's arms we trust 'cause they know I'm going to give them what they want. And looking for a hand. I guess that makes me a hand.
So what is your formula to keeping it fresh every time when you do a new album or a brand new track?
Just keep it right, man. You know, everything you do, just make it right. You know, everything is not going always be, you know, how you intended it to be. It'd be It's usually the song that you never expected to be big that winds up being real big. You know what I mean? You just do it to to do it because you love it.
If you were to think about a moment that stands out in history that is a really good moment for you, what would you say?
There's several of those moments. There's like the the beginning when I first got into the business, you know, and then it's um, can I do it again? you know, it's always can you do it again? I bet you can't do it again. You know, you know, the challenge. Yeah. Yeah, so you know, you wind up just doing it again and doing it again. And every time you do it again, people are going to always say, he can't do it again. You know what I mean? So that's just how the game goes. So that's what keeps us going.
What's your creative process like if you were to maybe describe it to the viewers that don't know?
I can't think of what the one creative process is. It's always something different, you know. You get inspired by life. You get inspired by other music, you get you know, different people in your life, different things you go through.
So do you keep a mic with you close by at all at all times so you can just bring it out when you're ready?
Nah, it's crazy you say that because someone was just telling me that that's their Yeah, that's their thing, you know, and um, I want to try it.
You want to try it.
Yeah, yeah, that's that could be like that's helpful, you know.
Absolutely. So what MC's right now do you think that are out there, the new MC's that you're looking at that that you think are great?
