I'm here at the Haunted Hayride and I'm absolutely terrified and I'm ready to go get started.

So, I'm about to get on the hayride and I am super excited and ready to maybe pee my pants.

How did you come up with this?

Uh, the entire event or this year's theme?

Uh, both.

First, the entire event.

Okay, so the entire event started seven years ago at this point and I was actually, I was just somebody who loved decorating my house at Halloween.

That was it.

Um, I found out there was a name for it.

You're called a home haunter.

If you Yeah.

Okay.

I was like, what?

Yeah, I had no idea it was even a thing, but it was.

And um, I I started noticing how many people were were spending money on this holiday, so I started digging into the revenue behind it.

Okay.

And um, it was a big industry that I thought was being pretty underserved here in LA. for a market this size, you'd think there would be more to do.

So, I said, you know what?

I have an event background, I know how to market things.

Um, I'm going to build my own attraction and that's where it came from.

Well, there you go.

And this is the perfect venue for it as well.

It is.

It really is.

Yeah, I think, you know, taking people who who live in the city and putting them into the woods at night is something you get to do very often and people loved it and so we became popular really fast.

Yes, you automatically get scared being in the woods.

I haven't, this is my first year and I'm very, very scared.

So this year's theme, how did you come up with that?

So, Boogeyman is uh, it's actually there's a lot of complexities to boogie man and it's a deep theme actually.

Um, we think of it as something that's under your bed and in your closet.

But the one unifying characteristic of fear is that wherever you go in the world, whatever time, you know, time era you look at, everyone has their own version of the boogie man.

So we decided to make this event kind of a walk through life and time of all of the different boogie men that have existed in the world and do culture by culture, era by era.

Do you get scared easily?

Yeah.

You do?

Yeah.

There's so many of them.

They told me what the boo!

Now, honestly, it's not it's not that bad.

It's not that bad because because because they can't really hurt me, so it's all good.

Okay, keep keep believing that.

So, I have seen some crazy characters around here.

Can you tell me a little bit more about them?

Yeah, we have 260 characters.

Stop.

No, not kidding.

And it it goes through a four-day casting process where we see over a thousand actors to get to these 260.

So, um, when one of my favorites is actually Slenderman, who you might have been seeing around here and Slenderman is like always in the media and press.

That is a really popular boogie man.

No, he's super popular.

Yeah, so we have a Slenderman here.

We have your classic um under the bed boogie man here.

We even have we even have some serial killers like Albert Fish Ed Geen boogie men here.

Yeah, and and the gamut.

We have some Vikings.

Um, there's so many different type of boogie man here.

And everyone's favorite boogie man, though we don't really refer to them as boogie man, clowns.

Clowns are terrifying.

Yeah, we did a research um study this year asking people what was the biggest fear in their lives.

And overwhelmingly, the top three answers were darkness, claustrophobic spaces, and clowns.

I love clowns.

As long as they don't have chainsaws, I think I'll be okay.

Yeah, I got scared.

I'm not gonna lie.

I got scared.

So, I survived.

How do you feel about me surviving, Jet?

Oh, I'm very happy about that.

Very happy indeed.

But I just feel so bad for the rest of the monsters.

They were so starving.

I'm pretty sure I won't have a voice tomorrow 'cause I screamed so much.

But it was so much fun and thank you for experiencing this with me and I can't wait for next year.
