What Was The Summer Anthem of 2019?!

The sun is still out, and the beaches are still crowded, but that is sadly coming to an end. The sun is slightly lower in the sky, backpacks are being packed, and school has started for many. One question remains, though. What was this year’s Summer anthem?

Hmmmm, hard one, right? First, let's get literal. What is a Summer anthem, you may ask? Well, it is the hottest song of the Summer, duh. It’s a song that was released in the Summer and also topped the charts. It’s usually a song that you have on replay while you and your crew hit the road for a relaxing, care-free day on the beach. The song you literally cannot get out of your head.

You know what I mean. Remember last Summer everyone was hopping out of cars singing and dancing to “Kiki, do you love me”? I was humming that song every minute of every day. Or, let’s take it all the way back to Summer of 2010 when everyone wanted to be a California Gurl because of Katy Perry? You know, because we’re fine, fresh, fierce, we got it on lock.

Now that you understand what a Summer anthem is, what song comes to mind when you think of this Summer’s hottest track? There were a pretty good amount of songs that were released this Summer, in my opinion.

For instance, Chris Brown and Drake released a song together and what gets better than Chris Brown and Drake? Not only was “No Guidance” a jam, but the music video was hilarious and both of them were looking like a snack the entire video.

Nope, that wasn’t the song, though. Let’s think harder. Taylor Swift released some music that made us all go wild. The anticipation drove us crazy and “You Need To Calm Down” was definitely fire, but I still don’t think that was the track. Ariana Grande also blessed us all with her new song and video for “boyfriend” featuring Social House. Again, she gave us lyrics that a lot of us can relate to… whether we want to admit it or not. Still, this wasn’t THE song.

The song “Señorita” was definitely a hit and was definitely catchy… but I think we’re more obsessed with Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’s chemistry a little more than the song itself. Normani just gave us a fun track with AMAZING visuals for “Motivation”, but still this wasn’t the HOTTEST song. Megan Thee Stallion also just dropped “Hot Girl Summer” with Ty Dolla $ign and Nicki Minaj, and girl I think that’s my Summer jam, but I wouldn’t say that was THE anthem of this season.

So, what could it be?!?! Did you guess it yet? DING, DING, DING, it’s Lil Nas X's “Old Town Road Remix” ft. Billy Ray Cyrus. How could it not be?!

Though this song wasn’t released in the Summer, it has been the number one song literally every week of the season until recently… so, it’s only fair. And, come on, you know you still jam out to the beat and sing with the windows down while you cruise to catch your tan. Don’t lie.
