TRACK BY TRACK: The Driver Era's 'X'
10. “Preacher Man”
The final song on the album, “Preacher Man”, was the first single we ever got from TDE back in 2018. In this song, you’re asking for your soul to be fixed, calling out to a preacher to fix you so you don’t keep losing out on love. To me, it feels like the devil and angel on your shoulders. Stay with me here, because this is how I’m seeing it. To me, it’s a battle between your conscience (the devil) telling you to go and do something even when your heart (the angel) knows it may not be the best decision. You want to believe that there’s more to all this, and you’re getting paranoid that you’ll fall into this cycle of bad decisions. You’re ashamed of some of the choices you’ve made and you want to fix your soul so you don’t keep doing it, but you just can’t stop yourself.
Favorite lyric: “I'm down on my knees, yeah, I'm paranoid / Don't wanna repeat what I did before / I wanna believe that there's something more...”
What’s your favorite song off of X? Let us know! Picking a favorite is hard, but I think mine has to be either “San Francisco” or “Scared of Heights”!
HUGE congrats to our boys Rocky and Ross on the debut album, and here’s to many more in the future! We’ll keep listening for as long as you’ll continue serving us bops (so, forever).
