Things To Do on a Rainy or Snowy Day!

Written by Amanda Baltazar. Published: December 23 2023

Brrrr! It's been absolutely chilling for the past couple weeks, and California has been getting some rainy days while the East Coast has been getting a ton of snow! While we do enjoy the weather change, it has kept us cooped up inside! But just because it's been raining/snowing, depending on where you live, that doesn't mean you have to be bored. There are plenty of different things you can do indoors that are super fun and you'll be able to stay warm.

Go to a Museum

Check out a local museum or science center where you can spend a few hours checking out beautiful art or testing out some awesome experiements.

Laser Tag

Laser Tag is like playing a real-life video game and you can do it with a bunch of your friends and family. It also helps you work out a sweat too! Or maybe I'm just out of shape...

Indoor Go-Karting

There's a few indoor go-karting places, and it is an awesome experience and a great way to boost that competitive spirit! Now you don't have to ruin your friendships playing Mario Kart since you can race in real life!

DIY Crafts/Cooking/ Hobbies

For me, DIYing is so relaxing and helps me release some creativity, and a rainy day in is a perfect time to try out that calligraphy set I bought two months ago or test out that cake-in-a-mug recipe I saw online. Recently, I've been obsessed with flipping old clothes that I don't want anymore and turning it into a whole new garment. Just YouTube or TikTok anything you're interested in and get to DIYing!

Read a Book/Kindle

I always say I don't have time to read, but when I'm confined to my house because of the weather, I have no excuses. Time to bust out Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that I started when I was in high school. Eek! Or maybe I can finally start reading some awesome celebrity autobiographies!

Clean/Organize House/Closet

No matter how many times I look through my closet, I always find clothes that don't fit or I don't want anymore. Rainy days are great for de-cluttering and you can donate all the clothes you don't want to charity or you can flip them in a DIY!

Bowling

I had a bowling birthday party when I was in 2nd grade, don't judge. Bowling is still completely fun and I bowl probably just as well as I did when I was in 2nd grade, but who cares?! Grab some friends and fam and knock over some pins!

Trampoline Park

Who ever decided to put 20 trampolines in one room was a genius! Kids and adults love jumping around on trampolines, doing flips and being active. It's also a totally intense workout!

Binge a Movie/TV Show

If you're not feeling like getting out of the house, you can also do one of my favorite pastimes -- binge-watching movies and TV shows. I'm currently binging the "Arrowverse" on Netflix, and if you don't have Netflix, that's totally fine. There's also Hulu, Prime Video, Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+, etc., etc., and if you don't have any other streaming service, there's always good ol' YouTube.

YouTube/Tiktok

Like I mentioned above, YouTube and TikTok have so much content, it's crazy! There's something on there for everyone, and if you're not sure what to watch, you can try to film your own YouTube video! Who knows?! You could be the next viral sensation!

Play a Board Game

It's always Colonel Mustard in the Library with the lead pipe! Rainy days always remind me of recess in elementary school when we had to stay inside and play board games. I love playing Guess Who and the game-that-never-ends, Monopoly.

Yoga

Relaxation and meditation. Or, if you're me, really inflexible stretching and lack of strength, but hey, I'm getting better with practice. Yoga is a great way to exercise and meditate and you can do it in your own home. Just fire up that YouTube and watch a step-by-step session video.

Write a Story/Draw

Just taking time to write or draw can help get some ideas out, and if you are an artist or a writer, it's good to practice your craft or hobby every now and then to keep your skills in tact. If you like doing both, or you want to challenge yourself, you can write a story and then storyboard it with drawings!

Go Sledding (For Snow Days Only!)

This is an exclusive snow day activity because, well, you need snow! Go sledding, build a snowman, make snow angels, and have fun!

Nap/Relax/Do Nothing

This is something that many people forget to do. Sometimes everyone just needs to chill and recharge themselves. My friends give me a hard time about my napping and and relaxing at home and I have to explain to them that you shouldn't underestimate the power of doing nothing.

These are just some ideas and activities you can do when it's raining/snowing outside! And I hope it helps because we've got some cold and wet weather on the way! Have fun and be safe out there!
