MTV's "Are You The One" Is Breaking Barriers With Gender-Fluid Cast!

Written by Kevin Norman. Published: June 12 2019

MTV is breaking barriers with the new season of its hit show "Are You The One”. The show usually centers around a group of men and women paired up to find their perfect match and win a prize up to a million dollars. This season features a progressive twist: each cast member is sexually fluid. In other words, men can match with men and women with women.

The show works by asking contestants to try and find their perfect match, determined by a matchmaking test each contestant takes before the show starts, and if they choose correctly, they win a prize. The show is full of drama, backstabbing, love, and, of course, lust. But the stakes this year are even higher because anyone could end up with anyone regardless of their gender. MTV is calling this “the first sexually fluid reality dating competition show in the United States.”

The last time MTV attempted a show like this was back in 2007 with “A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila”. The show featured both men and sexually fluid women competing to win the heart of Ms. Tequila. But now, with this new season of "AYTO", MTV is saying that this season “tells powerful stories about navigating relationships and finding love as a sexually fluid individual for the first time ever on a reality dating show.”
