WOMEN WE LOVE: Jessica Marie Garcia

Written by Sarrah Wolfe. Published: March 30 2020

If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking, “Why don’t more people know about Jessica Marie Garcia?", well, so have we. So we wanted to do something about that. There are so many reasons we want to tell the world about Jessica Marie Garcia. Where do we even begin?!

I guess we’ll start with "On My Block". Garcia’s character, Jasmine, might just be our favorite from the show. We knew this girl was going to be fun from the very first episode.

And you’ll probably notice that Jasmine isn’t in the first season as much as the second and third seasons. That’s because Jasmine was originally written as a very minor character. But Jessica Marie Garcia did SUCH an amazing job playing Jasmine, and everybody loved her so much, that they made her a more central character!

What also blows my mind is that Jessica Marie Garcia is 33 years old and is playing a HIGH SCHOOLER. And absolutely nailing it! Seriously, this woman is SO talented.

She also starred as Willow on "Liv and Maddie" and as Rhonda on "How To Get Away With Murder", and she is equally as impressive in those roles.

So look out, Hollywood, ‘cause your next queen is on her way up. Garcia has cited a lot of classic movie stars as her inspiration, like Elizabeth Taylor and Vivien Leigh, and she’s definitely got the talent to become the next sensation.

Aside from being an amazing actress, she’s also just an amazing human being. Jessica is an outspoken member of the Latinx community, an advocate for body positivity, and an admirably hard worker. She often speaks out about her struggles to becoming an actor, saying that at one point she was working as a waitress while also working on two TV shows. This girl stops at NOTHING.

We also LOVE her confidence and her passion for empowering women. In the "Undefinables" video series by Ali Robertson, Garcia has some incredible words to say about being a woman that I think will inspire anyone who watches it. She talks about accepting herself for who she is as a woman and changing the narrative for women everywhere.

We also recently had the pleasure of chatting with Jessica and the rest of her "On My Block" crew, and as usual, her personality shined through!

I could write a novel about why Jessica Marie Garcia is so incredible. She is truly an inspiration. She chased her dreams and is now using her platform to change the world for women everywhere. We are honestly so excited to see what she’s got in store for the future!
