Everything We Know So Far About Prime Video's 'Legally Blonde' Prequel Series "Elle"!
Elle Woods: "Oh, Warner, do you remember when we spent those four amazing hours in the hot tub after winter formal?"
Warner Huntington: "Yeah...No."
Elle Woods: "This is so much better than that!"
It is so much better!
The adored sorority sister-turned-lawyer played by Reese Witherspoon is finally returning for a brand new Prime Video series! Before she became the most iconic Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a normal high school girl.
On May 14th, it was announced that Prime Video and Hello Sunshine are in the works to develop a Legally Blonde prequel series titled "Elle". The project was unveiled at Prime Video’s annual upfronts, where the network presents its content lineup along with additional features and services to advertisers.
Reese Witherspoon, who portrayed Elle in the 2001 film, wore a Legally Blonde-themed ensemble for the announcement, consisting of an all-pink matching tweed skirt and jacket set. She then proceeded to execute the famous Bend-and-Snap move shown countless times throughout the film. Witherspoon shared that the series, produced by her production company, will follow Elle throughout high school in the '90s and tell the story of the events that molded her into the idolized young woman that we saw and fell in love with in the first Legally Blonde movie.
For more than 20 years, the beloved comedy has been a mainstay feel-good picture and is regarded as one of the greatest of the 2000s. The first film was followed up with Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, & Blonde in 2003, showcasing Elle on her journey to Washington D.C. to fight for animal rights. Despite fans' long-standing demands for a return to the film series for Legally Blonde 3, the news that Elle Woods will make her TV debut has been confirmed.
“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do,” Witherspoon said when announcing the project.
Laura Kittrell, who is best known for writing and executive-producing shows such as "High School" and "Insecure", will serve as showrunner, alongside other producers such as Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt.
No information on casting is currently available; however, fans are undoubtedly eager to see who is going to receive the much sought-after part of young Elle Woods. It is difficult to predict which, if any, of the movie's characters will make a comeback, given that the series will follow Elle's teens before the events of Legally Blonde. It's unknown if Witherspoon will make any appearances, or if younger iterations of other characters — such as Elle's love interest Emmett, her ex-boyfriend Warner, or her manicurist, Paulette, played by Jennifer Coolidge — will show up.
Although we don’t have an official timeline yet, if Elle Woods can make it through Harvard Law School, then we can make it through the anticipated wait!
