Daisy Grenade is a "bubble-grunge" duo that formed in 2021 consisting of Dani Nigro and Keaton Whittaker. Both come from a musical theater background and even met in that setting. After a production the two of them were involved in shut down, they joined together to start a band. Despite their background, they are heavily inspired by the '90s grunge scene and 2000s pop-punk. These influences are reflected in their music. They are advocates for the expression of female rage, and we’re here for it.

The band is well steeped in the world of pop-punk. Their debut EP Sophomore Slump was produced by Cobra Starship’s Alex Suarez and features a song written by Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. The 2022 EP features 5 songs, and with lyrics like “Tell me what you want me to say and I'll say it / Hand your mask to me and I'll happily fake it…”, the album deals with hard topics with a bright tone.

If you haven’t heard of "bubble-grunge" before, we’re here to break it down. Daisy Grenade exemplifies it. Their lyrics cover toxic relationships, insecurities, and self-deprecation while still making you want to get up and jump around. Daisy Grenade is a reminder to all girls and women that we don’t have to silence our emotions. We can sing about them with an upbeat track behind the pain. Sadness doesn’t have to sound dreary to be valid.

In 2023, they released Cult Classic, an EP consisting of 7 songs that proves that girls are sugar, spice, but not necessarily nice. This EP is female rage and angst at its finest with all of the passion and emotion of grunge but with polished vocals, Daisy Grenade provides empowering anthems. These lyrics from “Guts” represent the emotions well: “Spill your guts on the floor / Just did it 'cause I was bored / You think it's cute, but it's war, this is war…” This music is for all of the girls who want to jump, sing, and rage in their room.

Daisy Grenade’s own emotional lyrics paired with their endorsement from major emo figure Pete Wentz has established them as part of the modern-day emo scene. So, naturally, they also covered an emo hit a couple months ago. At the end of 2023, they released a cover of post-hardcore band Pierce the Veil’s 2012 song “King For A Day”. Daisy Grenade collaborated with Deadlands vocalist Kasey Karlsen for this cover. “King For A Day” is a widely beloved song, which makes it daunting to cover, but Daisy Grenade and Karlsen delivered! Their take on the song will get you headbanging just like the original.

From February 28 to March 13, Daisy Grenade will be opening for Fall Out Boy during their upcoming tour So Much For (2our) Dust. This will be their second time touring with Fall Out Boy, since they also opened for the first shows of FOB’s 2023 tour. Daisy Grenade will also be performing at So What Music Festival in Fort Worth this June and the 2000s pop-punk nostalgia festival When We Were Young in Las Vegas this October. In addition to their tour dates this year, they are also releasing new music! They have a collaboration single called “Liquor And Kerosene” with rock band The Maine that just came out on February 9!

Daisy Grenade are on the rise. They are here to slay and here to stay. Their music is fun, and their performances are too! They have a great stage presence and are engaging with their audience. They are totally worth the time to check out. Plus, since they only have two EPs out right now, it is super easy to give their whole discography a listen without feeling overwhelmed. With this boom of content, now is the time to become a fan. The alternative music scene is in need of more female-led bands, and Daisy Grenade are leading the charge.
